Today, Terri and I have been ditching all day to keep the barn from flooding. The water came up faster this time than in the previous 33 years we have lived here. The little creek running by the house has a normal flow of 2 ½ cfm (cubic feet per minute) and I am guessing it was around 12,000 cfm at its peak this morning. Listening to the weather reports, I may not be able to get out of here tomorrow.

It has been a –while since I have been on this site. The only days I had time to go on line, I was without power or it snowed, so I did not have internet service. It will take me some time to catch up. I have several emails and some PM’s from a few of the C-Brats that I will get to in the next few days.

I have to blame Brent for the beginning of my troubles. Wink He posted the following message about a lighthouse for sale. I wasn’t interested in the lighthouse but saw that the government was also selling 323 acres just south of Bend, OR. On our way to look at the property on the 17th of November, I went around a corner near Portland, OR and ran into a large SUV stopped in the road without break lights, hazard lights or a turn signal on. Said he was stopped for a light, but there was no light in sight. His vehicle was still drivable and he did not want to stick around for the police, so he took off. My truck is still in the shop waiting for parts.

There has been around 1500 messages posted since I was last on. Are there any important announcements I should be aware of? I have been swamped at the office plus looking for some timber land with timber or pre merchantable timber on it.

Dave-

Sorry to hear about your flooding and power problems. I hope you and Terri are well and doing fine despite the difficult siituations.

I'm also sorry to hear about your wreck. At least you weren't really injured. The vehicle will get repaired sooner or later.

I don't think anything really momentous has happened around here on the site. Your best bet would be to look through the various threads to see if any of them have information that is particularly relevant to you.

Hope everything works out for you and Terri! Keep us posted on all the developments!

Take Care,

Joe. Thumbs Up

Dave,

Let us know if there's any way we can help. It's days like today that I'm really glad I live near the top of a hill. Some friends of mine just came over to borrow my battery charger, my trolling motor battery and one of my spare bilge pumps. Their rental house needed a little de-watering help. Another friend of my lives really close to Chico creek and is one of the guys who's house is under a forced evacuation order. He's lucky as one of his neighbor's houses is afloat in the creek (now a river)! To make matters worse, he's the maintenance guy for several buildings in the Mill Creek area - including one that was flooded out today. So the rest of us - count your blessings and help out where you can.

Dave,

We've been thinking about you. Glad that you and Terri are okay. Sorry to see what's happening with your property. Had that experience when we lived on the Oregon coast. Take care.

Dave,

So sorry to hear about the weather and vehicle problems... Crying or Very sad truly a case of "when it rains, it pours". Glad to hear that you and Terri are OK, but it sounds like you have a lot of work ahead. I hope Mother Nature cuts you some slack and that things get back to normal quickly.

Anything the Brat Buddies can do or provide to help?

Best wishes,
Jim

Dave,
Sorry to hear about the truck accident and the flooding. Glad to hear that you and Terri are both fine. Best wishes as you work through the mess Mother Nature is dumping on you folks in the PNW.

Dave,

Everyone has pretty well covered our feelings. The important thing is safety of the people. Let the insurance company take care of the rest. Wink

I hope things improve. I added this item to the blame list. Your are number #38. I can only imagine what would have occurred if you visited the lighthouse.

Dave, Glad it's not you and Terri in the shop (hospital) waiting for parts. Sorry you are dealing with all that and the flooding too. We have other friends farther down I-5 that are stranded at best and possibly washed out. Haven't heard but judging from the news pix, They aren't going anywhere for a while.

Wish there was more we could do from here.

Thanks for all the well wishes and offers of help. I did not start this thread to generate sympathy for me. Just wanted to let my friends know why I had been absent from this site for the last couple of weeks.

Next to going out on my C-Dory and working on it, I enjoy buying real estate. Can’t boat so I was trying to do my next favorite.

All around Michigan Hill where I live, looks like this.

Right now I am trapped on Michigan Hill with all routes in or out flooded.
This is my normal route out.

While watching a rescue by the Coast Guard, I was talking to an old acquaintance when timber ground came up and he just happens to have a 200 acres for sale for one of his clients. Will have to look at it as soon as the flood waters go down. Probably be Thursday before I can get out. It should give me a chance to respond to the emails and PM’s I have received.

Coast Guard rescue.

The helicopter is in the middle of the photo behind the trees. He was there for about an hour getting a family out. I don’t think he moved more than a couple of feet in any direction during that hour.

These cows may not be as fortunate.

Earlier I watched two try to swim to higher ground and get caught in the swifter current and disappear down river.

I know they are saying this is a record flood for this area and it may be over all, but where I took these photos, I believe it was deeper in the 1996 flood. Will have to look at some of my old photos.

Looking at what happened when I went to look at the Bend property, I can only guess that my boat would have sunk, if I went to look at the lighthouse. That would have made me a little unhappy. The rest of this does not bother me at all, except I hope the cows make it through the night. If they do, they will have a chance.

Dave,
Sounds like you have things under control. Except for the accident. Glad no one was hurt. Did you rear end that guy? If so, it is good he took off. I have a friend who had the same thing happen. Probably was a swoop and squat with him. He got the ticket. The other guy got a new truck. In this case the guy actually slammed on his brakes right in front of my friend. He left long skid marks, proving it was intentional. But no matter, If you rearend someone ,by law, it is your fault.

Keep your powder dry.

Hi Folks,

Remember the guy running around the West Coast telling everybody that the West Coast was going to slide into the sea. I think he might be right.

Dave,

Glad you're ok! Up my way we didn't get as much water as you guys did. The Raging went from it's normal 75 cfs to 2000 cfs (well within its banks). This is pretty typical for this river so nothing to worry about. Had it gone up to 3500 cfs I might have to start looking for more sand bags. I hate it when we get snowfall followed by a Pineapple Express! And this one was worse than most as we had a lot of snow before it started.

Sorry to hear about your truck! I hope you at least got the guys license plate number.

Good luck and hope the roads and other items are quickly repaired.
Did anyone rescue the cows?
