Have you had the boat out with the Permatrim? I sure liked the results on our 22.

Yes I have, for many months. It makes a world of difference on the 16 especially. Frankly, I think they should add it to every 16 sold without even asking. The doel fin has been on a shelf here for quite a while. I thought maybe some of the bigger engined boats would use it on their kicker or whatever. Anyway, this is the last stop before the garbage man gets it.

How is a doel fin different from a Permatrim, for us uninitiated? I really don't feel the need for anything on the CD16 Angler but heck, why not give it a try?

I'm curious as to what difference the permatrim makes that the doel-fin doesn't? I have a doel-fin on my 22' but now wonder if I should be using the permatrim?

There have been several extensive discussions here about the benefits of the Permatrim . Here's a recent place to start

I have the Doel Fin and have had a feeling it wasn't doing all that it was supposed to. Looks like I need a Permatrim.

flapbreaker-

DO READ the thread Marty lists above, as it is very enlightening!

Short and to the point read follows:

The Permatrim-

has more surface area which ='s more of the desired effects.

is longer, making for a longer lever arm, and making the boat act more like a longer boat.

has downturned sides, channeling the water better on the fore-aft flow for steering assist and containing the water under the foil more tightly, enhancing the effect of the plate in general.

is made up of stout aluminum alloy, not flexible plasic, making it work better.

lacks narrow tips on the outside, making it less likely to trip on tight turns and affect handling negatively.

All IMHO.

Joe - I don't know about all that, but I do know it works. As Marty has said many times, the Permatrim should be standard equipment with the 16 Cruiser.
I have never used the Dole Fin so I can't compare the two.

Marty - did you use the Dole Fin before you got the Permatrim?

If I already have trim tabs are there additional advantages to adding a Permatrim?

Yes I used doelfin prior to permatrim. Big difference in favor of Permatrim in essentialy all aspects of handling the boat, especially bringing bow down and holding and keeping control in turns.

Does the Permatrim make sense on a Homda 150 that powers a 25' cruiser? thanks, Ken wood duck

woodduck - I don't know of a 25 that has a permatrim on it but there are many 22's and most like it.

The permatrim will help if you feel the 25 should have a more bow down attitude at certain speeds but the trim tabs should do this. It may also help you get on plane a little faster. I think it would be more of a subtle change on the 25, while on the 16 it is a dramatic change.
