My twin controls are mounted right beside the helm seat via an aluminum angle bracket secured to the countertop (for lack of a better word). There should be plenty enough room there for a single control, but I did move my seat just a bit to port for more room with twin controls.

Hey Bobfly, welcome to the site and congrats on the boat. Poke around in the albums, lots of pictures of boat control stations. For example, here's one on a 19!

Invariably, you'll find them just to the starboard side (right) of the seat, where they can easily be reached without looking at them.

If I remember my 22 right, there's a flat area there that is horizontal, they can be mounted on that. I had dual controls (two Honda 45's) on my old boat.

Charlie

Bob,

If you mount your throttle control on your right next to the helm seat, make sure it is far enough away from the fiberglass that you wont scrape your hand against the fiberglass when using the controls. That fiberglass will shave the skin clean off your pinky, especially when you're a bit excited and trying to change speed or direction in a hurry.

Not that I have any experience in those things....
