Yes - it might end up being a love hate relationship. I'd like to have it end up being the former not the latter. Anyone have suggestions on keeping the discoloration around the walas exhuast from turning my gel goat to a creamy yellow? I have cleaned it with soap and put a light wax on it. However, I still see a slight yellowing. Is this normal? Should I just accept a slight discoloration from using it? I'm ok with that if it's normal. Thanks again for the Walas help.

Actually its much more love than hate. Just got to hate it when that wonderful dry heat quits.

No discoloration here after 5 seasons of using kleenheat or the equivalent and when Scan Marine did the service with repair they said inside of burner was extremely clean. The last time the unit had been serviced was the fall of 2003, when we had it sent in for service, cracked glass top and lid fan upgrade. So though we were unhappy with it quitting on the trip this year, we did get almost 4 seasons of it being trouble free. Also the largest portion of the repair bill was replacing the controll board. When I checked the controll board after it quit working found it not seated well in its holders and it had shorted out on that corner. Don't know if all the rough water we encountered, caused this or not. When you are looking it over do a quick check to see if its well seated.

Bottom line---glad we have the Wallas stove in the boat.

Jay

Home Depot is over an hour away -
I think Freds or Ace will work. Will any kerosene product work or Kleenheat is really the one to have?

Sounds like if you don't want stains on the side of the boat, KleenHeat is the one to go with. I haven't even lit off my Wallas yet, it's 90degrees Plus here on the Chesapeake!

Hey all...

If the yellowing is from overheating the gelcoat, nothing much will help. If it is from kerosene burning fumes, an organic cleaner might help. There is a bar soap in the paint thinner dept. of Hobby Lobby and Michael's called "The Master's Soap" which can clean set up oil paint off brushes, clothes and hands. It is quite gentle, almost "aloe" like - probably made from seaweed. That would be worth a try. I use it alot on hands, clothes paint spills,etc..

Also, in a pinch, you can get oderless kerosene paint thinner in the same places. I try to use Keen Heat all the time, but have burned a gallon or two of the odorless oil paint thinner kerosene with no problems.

Fred's didn't have it. Maybe too early in the season. Will try the local hardware shops. ACE/True Value.

Odorless Mineral Spirits... at Michael's or Hobby Lobby will work like Kleen Heat.
