Any C-Brats going to be in the Catalina area over the week-end? I will be leaving early Sat am (Huntington Beach) thru Monday to see if I can get some bugs and fish if anyone wants to hook up out on the water.
Plan to stay in the Two Harbor area.

In the words of Max Smart..."missed it by that much" We are sitting on the boat at the Isthmus, as we speak and will be heading home (Huntington Harbor) Sat. morning...will probably pass you mid channel. If we can stay up late enough tonight we will get a jump on the season at 12:01 AM. Hope your bug hunting is succssful.

Hi Salty C's, Hi Roger,

What's the weather like at the Isthmus Salty C's???? Are you on the string line?

It is getting windy and dank here (desert) this afternoon.

Good luck with the diving Roger!

Miles and I were planning to dive this weekend and hunt for the bugs we MISSED last time out (our first). But...things got in the way, like my starboard engine's lower end just got fnished with new seals (1 of the 3, not sure which). Took them 3 weeks, just called today for me to pick it up, I'll go early tomorrow morning. But then we have a front lawn to finish putting in, must do this weekend, association is on us to finish what we started just before the big heat wave here.

Maybe next weekend if there are any bugs left...

Couldn't 're-find' this subject in the usual forums, so searched, of course stupid me, it's under "Electronics"!

So, all you bug hunters out there, any luck this weekend?

My buddies and I dive for bugs here in MA. Since I'm sans boat until I take delivery of the Tomcat in March my last bug came from a shore dive. We're diving again Friday night. Lobster of course come out and walk around on the bottom at night but you can't take them. It's amazing to see how many there are...and the sizes are impressive. We literally need to watch if we want to touch or approach the bottom closely because there may be a large lobster with claws open.

Do you have laws in CA that specify minimum size, eggers, or v-notch restrictions?

Regulations governing the sport take of spiny lobster have helped to preserve the tradition of lobster diving and hoop netting in southern California. The 2007-2008 spiny lobster season regulations include:

Fishermen (16 years or older) must possess a valid sport fishing license.
Spiny lobster taken must measure at least 3 1/4 inches in length, measured in a straight line on the mid-line of the back from the rear edge of the eye socket to the rear edge of the body shell.
The daily bag limit is seven lobsters.
Divers may take lobsters by hand only.
Up to five baited hoop nets may be fished by a person for lobster with a maximum of 10 per vessel, regardless of how many fishermen are onboard.

Well Jeff, you made MY DAY -- even a SoCalifornian! Miles and I COMBINED over the last 3 years of hooping and diving have caught a total of 1 legal (yes ONE). Maybe we're not putting enough time into the sport, only about 50 hours so far... Congrats, maybe our day will come too! So where's the pics?

Hi "D-J",

I would be glad to meet up with you sometime and show you what I know. I can't seem to catch a fish but I am lucky with lobster for some reason!?

Write direct if you wish to plan a trip sometime. It is only right I share my knowledge as Keith, from C-Pup, was the first to show me lobstering, last year, at Cat.

Here's a pic of my friend with a bug we caught, I think it shows the scale nicely. Well, I take that back, I do not see where/how to attach a pic here, so I will put one in my album if you wish to look there.

Maybe you can refresh my scuba skills after 25 years of inactivity in the sport?
