Does anyone have any experience with the Garmin 240 Blue series Fishfinder ?????
I had a Furuno LS6000 that gave up the Ghost while out shrimpin last Sunday. I bought a new Garmin240 Blue and installed it in the "Sensei" tonite. What a general PITA. having to change out the transducer and all the wiring.

The cost of the shrimp just got more expensive...lol...

Hey Roger,

Let's check out that new depth sounder tomorrow at Lopez shrimp grounds. Your pots or mine, breakfast before we leave. Gimme an email --

Good catch yesterday, huh?

Dusty

Hey Roger, PITA for sure. I installed a Garmin 250c about a month ago and still talking to the Garmin tech people about the scroll speed. I think the 240 and 250 work about the same, what's going on with your 240?

Hey Jon
so far so good on the 240. the only problem I have is sometimes I have to shut it off and restart it to get the bottom locked after going faster than about 10 mph.
I liked the furuno 6000 because it was able to pick up clouds of shrimp on the bottom. the 240 doesnt do that .maybe I have some gain or something set wrong.

Hey Dusty
yeah it was a good day of shrimpin yesterday. we ended the day with about 200 shrimp.
lookin forward to tomorrow. see you on the dock at 0900.

I had to relocate the transducer for the same reason. I was able to hold the bottom depth at about 15 mph and then, gone. I initally had it installed on the inboard side of the strake but I think I was getting to much turbulence from the hydrofoil. I moved it to the old transducer location ( 3 inches from the outboard edge and 1/4 inch below the bottom) and works at any speed most of the time.

How does your scroll speed work? It seems like on my 250 I'm looking at the same picture I passed a mile ago Crook

Way to go on your shrimpin'.

Dear Roger,

I just installed a Garmin 240 Fishfinder last week and had the opportunity to use it over the three day weekend. We went from Lake Union to Stuart Island through Deception Pass both ways. We travelled at full throttle for much of the trip (max speed was 29kts, 4 hr 45minutes from the locks to Prevost Harbor) and had a fair amount of turbuence in Deception Pass (full ebb coming back) and a lot of big boat wakes to contend with. The sounder worked most of the time except when the water got deeper (over 200 feet). The numeric read out would stop but the graphic still recorded. I had the gain on the factory default. I have been quite pleased with it's performance. The GPS speed and the Garmin 240 Fishfinder speed are consitantly about two kts different , even in still water. I haven't read anything about calibaration yet.

Happened to run into meet Bambina going out through the locks and ironically locked back through with Bambina again after 198 nm and three days.

Best regards,
Rhys Spoor
Island Flyer

On our way through the locks

Hey, Rhys and Margaret, thanks for letting me saddle up next to you while we waited for the locks to open. Having smaller boats allowed us to slip into the small lock, and likely saved us more than an hour waiting for the large lock. I saw you pass Shilshole less than five minutes before me. I was coming from Blake Island. What are the odds of spontaneously locking through both out and back? Seems your marine clock agrees with mine.

Nice to have met you both, and we'll meet again, I'm sure.
