Lotsa you C-Brats gots radars. I don't have one yet but will soon. What do you do with the extra cable twixt the antenna and the display? Many of them are 10 meters plus long. Most of us need 2 meters at a maximum. Maybe I just need a 35ft C-Dory!! Twisted Evil

I have no compunctions (is that a real word??) about cutting and reterminating the ends, have done it a bunch in my 40+ years of Ham Radio. How 'bout some advice, we seem to have a plethora (wow, two big words in one post) of that!! Laughing Laughing

Charlie (Don't tell Sally, she doesn't know about the radar yet)

Went through this on Da Nag 19 - had a bunch left over, and decided to cut it.

Short answer - I wouldn't do it again. It's very difficult and time consuming, with lot's of opportunity to hose things. Some of the wires are very fine, and hard to solder. Some of the wires have additional shielding inside the main jacket. Also, most RADAR manufacturers tell you not to - others have reported that display problems could result by shortening the cable. I didn't have that problem, and JRC didn't care if I cut the cable, but it would have been far easier to just coil it up somewhere.

Like some other folks, I built a Starboard front for the electronics shelf, with cuttouts for the VHF, stereo, etc. The area in behind makes a great place to coil up extra cable.

We've got tons of extra radar wire coiled up on the C-Lou, (it's all just stashed behind the steering console.) The extra wire came installed on the boat, along with the extra large radar screen, and mega large ray-dome on top of our cute little angler. Hey all this extra large stuff did find Brock in the fog didn't it ! ! ? ? ! !...

Besides it serves as an extra sleeping berth for guests when needed. (Just ask Dave S.) Wink

It can be done and I did it once which doomed me to moving the dome and needing a longer wire. After burnt fingers and new trifocals I swore never again. I rolled up the cable and stashed it on the self.
