From other threads I have learned that the sink and shower drains need to be cleaned periodically. Where and how is this done?

Thanks,
Warren

Interesting--I have never specifically cleaned a sink drain. I have cleaned the filter on the sump box, or a filter on a diagphragm pump.
Generally just flushing regularly with clear water works. In our RV's we put Grey water control into the drains and holding tanks. We use CP and KO chemicals for cleaning the head and controlling the odor in the head. I suspect that the CO could be used to "clean" the shower drains. Better is to be sure that no stagment material stays in the hoses or drain sumps.

If this doesn't get me beat up it may make some think I'm weird, but here's what I do to my sink drain once a year (plus the one time I actually needed to). Take the nozzel of the garden hose, shove it in the drain hole, wrap a towel around it to keep the spray from getting you wet and squeeze the handle. If the boat is in the water you might make sure nobody is on the dock next to the thru hull drain.

Your shower drain might be a different story if, from what I gather in another thread, it goes to a sump with a pump. Maybe don't squeeze the nozzel so hard??

Warren,

I do what Tyboo Mike says to both the sink drain and also to clean the Scupper Flapper valves in the aft cockpit. Just try running a good spray into those scupper intakes and see all the debris that flies thru the outlets!

I spray the scupper valves almost everyday I have access to a hose.

I lift the lint/hair off the shower drain fitting everytime I use the shower.

The Shower "sump pump" box is inder that floor flap under the sink cabinet. You use a small phillips screwdriver to remove the clear plastic lid and clean out any debris/sediment inside the box.
