Does anyone know anything about finding abalone in the Sitka/Hoonah area? I'll be heading there in a few days and am finding info about Alaska abalone pretty scarce.

Bearbait;

It looks like only the Pinto species of abalone are found as far north as Sitka in the very cold waters there:

Pinto Abalone See Figure 4.

I'd suggest you contact Chivita Dave who lives and manages a hotel/inn in Sitka for local information and regulations.

Joe.

Abalone is in Texas ain't it? Loved that song.

Abalone, Abalone
Prettiest town that I've ever known
Women there let you take them home
In Abalone, my Abalone

(Sorry. I don't know why I did it.)

Tyboo -

I think you may be confused . . ? Abalone is pronounced: Ab - A - Loan - Ay.

Here's the correct song:

Oscar Meyer has a way,
with A-B-A-L-O-N-Ay

The truth is Pinto Abalone is a Native American/Italian girl who entertains customers upstairs at the Totem Inn where Chivita Dave runs the show.

Just tell your wife you're going on a fishing trip, however.

Totem Inn and MORE!

We gotta quit this crap!

Mike: It's good that the girls are off at camp!

OK, That's it. I was going Salmon fishing this weekend but now I've got to go take care of Joe for insulting Italian girls.
What size shoe do you wear smart fella?
B.S. Those Alaskan Abalone are pretty small. Better to go for Salmon/Halibut.

JT, I realize pinto abs are small but I can get enough salmon and halibut to last the year in one good day, plus I'd rather eat abs.
