We are pretty excited about heading out to Apalachicola to meet the Wefings folks and test drive a new R21-EC. If all goes well, we plan to trailer it back to Texas on Sunday. The main issue will be the ergonomics of the tug for a big guy like myself and my first mate. I was delighted to read good things about the Wefings people... they have been first rate to deal with so far and I have no reason to think that will change.
I have studied this project for over a year and think the economy of the R21-EC is what put me over the top. I plan to learn my vessel on Lake Texoma and take the Coast Guard training with an eye toward using our Tug for extended Intracoastal cruising when I semi retire in 3 years.
Naturally, I'm interested in hearing from other owners to learn more about this little tug. With any luck, we'll be proud new owners by Saturday! |

Steve,
Congratulations and welcome to the "Tug Thugs". You'll love the boat. She handles great in the water and tows real easy with a F150 or Expedition. I've only had Soulmate six months and am doing the same thing you want to do, learning about her in Lake LBJ and Canyon Lake in Central Texas and plan to take her on the ICW later this summer or early fall. The only trouble you will have is, every time you stop on the water or while trailering somebody will ask about your boat. I've had people follow me in to parking lots off of the highway and even flag me down in the water to ask. But that's kinda fun. Post a note as soon as you've "done the deal".

Good to see Texas filling up with C-Dorys and Rangers...maybe we will have our own get together soon!
Apalachicola is a nice town and the Wefings folks (from whom we bought our Tomcat) have been great to work with. You will have a fun trip. Good luck, and hope you come back with a boat. _________________ Alok

Welcome aboard, Steve. Another potential Texas owner! That tug will be great on the ICW. Keep us posted on how it goes in Florida.
Best wishes,

Marc and the Wefings crew have treated us well. We just purchased a 2007 22' cruiser this past April. Have fun in Apalachicola and with your purchase. _________________ Bob & Nancy (Ashley Lynn)

AlokI remember a couple years ago, Texas only had one or two C-Brats with boats and you were one of them. Now, there are eleven listed on the Brat Map.
2 – 22’s
2 – tug’s
6 – cat’s
1 – 25
Soon to be 3 – tug’s
Congratulation Texas Brats.
Texas Steve – welcome to the C-Brats.

Hey Dave, we've since run into a couple 22s that are not members here - Texas is a BIG state; who knows how many C-Dorys reside there! As the second most populous state in the nation, there is a HUGE market there.
Best wishes,
Jim (from the very southern tip, a half mile from the end of the ICW) |

Tx Steve,
We need to negotiate a bird dog fee from the factory or Marc at Wefing cause we sure spend a lot of time giving pitches on C-Dory and Ranger.
I know I have sold several C-Dorys for them ( factory) over the years.
Congratulations on your new boat. It is like the little brother to the 25 R.

Steve, You will love the tug. Mine is great on lakes and even better here on the St. Johns river. The best part is that it is about impossible to burn a tank of fuel. The only downside is that you will not out run bad weather, but I have not been in anything yet that was an issue (except lightening). The hardtop that I added over my cockpit has made it so nice for the wife and friends along. Even though cramped you will enjoy the "galley" as I do not have such on my 2006 tug. I look forward to hearing about your trips and seeing your tug in an album. A few of us have tug albums to show the ware. Good luck and congratulations. For all of you that were so kind and wishing us well...
Our brand new R21-EC is now safely home in Texas. We decided "Slow 'n Easy" would be a perfect name for her. Off to the local marine yard for some further outfitting and we should have her in her slip on Lake Texoma by the weekend.
Pullling her 850 miles was a breeze and she sure was the topic of conversation the whole trip home.

Steve, glad you made the decision to buy, I'm excited for ya'll........"Slow 'n Easy" is a great name, very descriptive. I look forward to seeing pictures of her in an album.
Jim, (JamesTXSD) would you consider organizing a Texas C-Brat gathering this Fall? Our numbers are growing.

Congratulations to the Slow 'n Easy crew! That boat is going to be a lot of fun; looking forward to some photos.
Dave, we should be back home in September and have some side trips planned for the fall. A Texas gathering would be fun... although I'm not sure I'm qualified to organize my sock drawer, much less a gathering. Port Aransas... Corpus... South Padre Island... up Alok's way to Kemah... Lake Travis... up to Texoma. That's a lot of options and a lot of miles. I think the tradition has been: he who brings up the gathering organizes the gathering. Let's see if there's any interest for specific times and locations.
Best wishes,
Jim B. |
