I hate to say it but this morning when I went out to get in my truck this morning it all of a sudden hit me that my kicker motor was missing from my boat. The kicker had one of those two piece locks that go over the tightening screws. It appears that they pryed the motor off the boat because there are a lot of deep scratches on the transom that go past the gelcoat and into the fiberglass. I live in a quiet neighborhood that has always seemed safe but I guess it can happen anywhere.
I called Les and have already ordered a new kicker. I will let you know how the insurance company responds to this in case if anyone is interested. I have Safeco insurance and we will see.
Just in case anyone runs into a Honda BF8 S/N 1800042 with about an hour on it knock the person either into the water or ditch and give me a call.

Fred, sorry to hear about your motor. It just makes it all the worse that now you are going to have to repair your boat as well. Glad to hear you have a new one on the way. D & D |

Sorry to hear that news, Fred. And maybe more than the stolen motor is the lessened peace of mind. |

Yeah my insurance agent says now the same thieves will be looking for the new motor to show up so they can do it again. What a world we live in.
I was thinking in the discussion on what motor combo to get maybe one of the factors should be how easy are they to steal. Twins because they are harder to steal.
I still plan on coming to Jerry's Cove next Thursday but, like Catman, without a kicker. I think I will wait and cruise with Jon and Brock.
It looks like Safeco is already writing me out a check for a new motor, guess I can't complain about the insurance company. |

Geez, Fred, really sorry to hear that. Hope your insurance company comes through. What more could a person do than have a lock on it?

Man, Fred - I feel for you. There a very few things in life that get me more pissed off than a thief...the loss of the item is only half of it.
Is there enough damage to the transom that you'll need to get it fixed, or will the new motor cover things up?
I think I'll be following Jon's lead...he just doesn't leave it on the boat. Yeah, it's a pain to take on and off, but it's a lot safer in the garage. On the road, I'll probably lock it up in the camper shell; a determined thief could still get in, but out of sight, out of mind...
Don't know how long the order with Les will take to get in, but if he can get you one prior to Jarrell Cove, and you two can work things out on the phone, I'll be glad to toss it in the back of the truck and bring it on down. I'll be making the trip back south from EQ twice; once this coming Saturday, once the following Thursday. _________________ Will, C-Brat Nerd |

Fred, that makes me sick to my stomach. I deal with creeper's like that every day and it angers me that one got to my friend. I'm a firm believer that, what goes around, comes around. Hummm, maybe he has an outstanding felony warrant in Clallam County.
I stayed with Safeco after working some things out with them, it sounds like there pretty good after all. |

Thanks for all the support, it is just stuff and can be replaced. They even took the sunbrella kicker motor cozy. What bothers me is the thought that some low life is just outside my bedroom window up to no good, kind of creepy. I will be putting the boat at Twin Bridges next month so it will be pretty secure. I'm with you about the engine, from now on if I have it at home it will be in the garage same with anything of value.
Bill I will be up in Anacortes this weekend so I will probably see you but thanks for the offer. Oh, I will give Les the suicide knob if I don't see you.

Fred,
I've got a classic 8 on the back of Little Buddy right now and she is out of the water. If you want, I'll bring it down and you can use it until the new one gets here. It's got less than an hour run time on it, so should be fine.
Agree with Jon -- hate thieves. Spent too many years with all personal gear open, and you had to trust your shipmates...

Thanks for the offer Dusty, Les has one in stock so I guess I am covered. I think I am going to wait till after Jerry's Cove to put it on. The transom damage appears to be minor but I still would like it fixed before I put a the new one on. Les was talking about thru bolting the kicker on with a locking nut on it, sounds like that may be the solution.
I think with all the other boats around I am in good hands if something should happen. |
