Saturday we put about three and a half break-in hours on the new Honda BF15 kicker on Daydream in Lake Washington. 15 minutes at trolling speed, 45 minutes at 10% - 30% throttle, 60 minutes at 50% - 80% throttle, with occasional runs up to full throttle. Pretty good breeze, moderate chop, about half against the wind and half with it.
Observations - speed topped out at 5.5 knots, it might have made it up to 6 knots wind aided. Attained 4.5 - 5.0 knots at 30% throttle, all the rest of the increase in throttle resulted in a whopping 0.5 knot increase in speed. I am going by the numbers on the TrollMaster here, but the sound of the engine rpms was in line with the TM numbers. Economy (from Navman) - below 30% throttle, no reading in gph, and mpg was probably meaningless - but it sure was nice to think I might be getting 50+ mpg! At about 30% throttle and above, began seeing mostly .1 and .2 gph, occasional .3 gph. When I had gph readings, the mpg was registering 12 - 20 mpg - realistic?
What have other folks with a similar setup observed?
