I finished making a locking storage box and operating platform for my Honda generator and thought some of you might like to see it. It's a simple set up, easy to make, and very useful. One problem with these generators is that they are frequently theft targets, and this box adds some security help deal with that issue.
It's made out of a Rubbermaid ActionPacker storage box, and adapted so that the feet of ther generator are held tightly, the generator and box can be secured tightly for operation, and all can be locked up together, whether in storage or just all chained down tight. I have a Honda EU1000i generator, but the box will hold a EU2000i just as well.

Thats a nice setup . I especially like the matching red funnel. Same size box fits a 2000 ? You oughta market that !I will be building one for my 25 cruise ship . That will keep the generator out of the cabin forever. Ill make a cockpit seat on top of it as I have a mount for running the gen on the rear corner seat already. Nice work !

Nice work Joe! I like the carpet too. Where is your lava lamp? Just pulling your chain. THis looks to be a great set up. Will be interesting to see the input/ideas/and where this goes with our boats.

some great ideas--it took me a couple of minutes to figure out which "C Dory" this was in~!
I'll have to try the evaperative cooler for Powell--where did you get it?
We use the action packer, but use a milk crate for the generator on the swim step. We will have to see if ours could be mofivied (EU2000--but maybe we sould get a 1000 for the C D 25...?

Bob- I bought it at Lowe's Home Improvement Center. $140 + tax.
I haven't had a day over 90 degrees yet to really test it like we will when it gets to be 100, 105, 110, and up!
An evaporative cooler in our climate here (15-25% humidity, typically, drops the air temperature to about 82-85 degrees, which makes things tolerable with adequate air circulation.
The cooler may need a window fan to bring in fresh air to it, of course, as it depends on evaporation into air with low humidity to produce the temperature drop.
I've been running it with the windows open to allow fresh air to get to it.
Running it in a closed enviornment will cool at first, then saturate the air with moisture, and finally the air will heat up from contact with the boat, and you'll have a high humidity / high temperature situation and be back in the tropics!

If you put on a lava lamp don't forget the incense.
I'm trying to figure out how to get the generator out
of the cockpit all together.
Got to have  espresso and AC 
Maybe an electric grill. I don't expect much.
Just to watch TV in an AC cabin with
steaks on the grill and be on plane at 11mph 
That's with enough gear for 2 weeks when we
stay 3 days. When I'm done I may set a new
record for cd25 weight. Wonder why the bow is
always in the air? 
Well, gotta go. I'm off to find a 500 watt amplifier and
12" sub woofer for the boat stereo. |

No lava lamp. No inscense. No beard. No long hair. No dope. No hip at all!
Sounds like you need to design and build a dedicated stainless steel generator frame somewhere around the transom/motor well. Done right, it would be a very saleable option or after market addition.
The generator weighs less than a kicker (~45 lbs for an Eu 2000i, ~70-110 lbs for a kicker), so if one doesn't want it in the motor well area, it could be mounted at one side of the transom w/o weight balance problems.
If you moved up to a 3000 watt unit, you can install an electric starter!
(El and Bill will frown  on this!)
All this suggests a new boat name: "Electric C" (with a lightning bolt after the "C"

THis is a great setup! I'm just curious as I am coming from a larger boat with inverter....What are running with this and how have you got wired into the system....Is it strictly to run certain appliances or are you running all your house systems  |

| This particular setup is standalone. It is not hard wired into the boat's system. When AC is needed on board, I use a conventional hd extension cord plugged into the boat's 110v plug via a converter pigtail. |

hello papillon
i received my newly ordered eu2000i generator last week.
the photo you've posted is exactly what i needed. great example, looks secure and well thought out. the exhaust is vented away from the boat, and i like the rubber piping used to soften the support on the gelcoat.
