Hi,
We are looking at buying a C-Dory. We want to know what is the standard size holding tank is and what's the height of the boat on the trailer ? Any help would be great. We were thinking of a Rosbourough but they don't have a inside shower. It looks like everyone here loves their boats ? We hope to have ours and be able to come to your get together in VA. Do we need to be on a list or sign up to come ? Thanks again.

Larry and Tracy,
You didn't mention which model you're interested in, but with the shower desire I assume you're talking either the 25 Cruiser (like mine) or the TC 255 (Tom Cat). Some time ago I measured the height of mine on the trailer, it is 110.5" from the ground to the top of the cabin (not including the radar). I have a 27' Pacific two-axle trailer, 108" wide, sits below the fenders slightly.
Hope this helps, enjoy your search! These are truly fine boats. _________________ Steve & Carmen

Steve thanks so much for your help ! We are interested in the 25' Crusier. We just couldn't find out from the papers that we picked up at the boat place or on the factory site what size the holding tank is. Any information would be great ! Thanks, Larry & Tracy |

The standard Sea Land head which has a built in holding tank is 10 gallons. We find this is good for anywhere from 4 to 7 days, depending...especially how much water one adds with a "flush".
I have a Road Trek class B RV which also has a 10 gallon holding tank--it is OK--and even with larger boats which had 30 or 40 gallon holding tanks--it is a "pain".
The showers are nearly the same size in the C D 25 and Tom Cat. Another option in any of these boats is to put a shower in the cockpit.
We have one in our TC and will be putting one in the CD 25. I noted that the Rosborough 246 can have a shower in the head (a bit cramped) or in the cockpit. _________________ Bob Austin

Glad I could help, but I don't have a black water holding tank, elected to not get one (and glad of it, too much maintenance IMHO). |

Hi, We had a Rosborough and even the high side version would not have a very good shower in the head. Our 246 was a fine boat. We had a hot and cold shower in the cockpit and used cheap shower curtains for keeping wandering eyes from our lovely bodies. Actually if anyone would look they may look away quickly! This worked just fine for us, on the hook no problem and in a marina we usually used the shower ashore.
Consider a large port-a potty instead of a holding tank and a pump out. A lot less hassel PM me if you want any info on the care and use of port-a-pottys.The inside shower in the C-Dory 25 would be much better than the one in the Rosborough.
Our C-Dory 22 we use a sun shower in the cockpit when on the hook. We try to find secluded coves to avoid shocking others.

I was just on a Rosborough today admiring it. If you could put the Rosborough and cd25 in a bag and shake them up you could come out with a great boat. I like the way the Rosborough sets in the water, the heigth of the v-berth and the sliding doors but don't want a small head in the V-berth or shower in the cockpit. Cathy likes the Galley seating on the cd25 because she can enjoy the view out the window easier. We like the location of the head and shower with the side opening window on the cd25. When showering the water leaks out under the door onto the cabin floor but a small micro fiber towel shut in the door along the bottom solves the leak problem. I believe our tank holds 9 or 10 gallons like Bob said. We have always used the 8 oz liquid sea land in the holding tank and never had problems with odors. I am pulling the boat from the lake tomorrow to take it up to the Cumberland River get together with the Byrds and will measure the height on the trailer and post that info for you. |

Jeff, there are a variety of solutions for the door leakage problem, maybe do a search on this site. |

Thanks for all the ideas and information. I think we'll go with the C-Dory we just have some more research to do. I like the sliding doors too on the Rosbourough. We took a sea trial this weekend on one. We didn't get to take a sea trail on the CD yet. Maybe this weekend. You all think a 90hp with a 15 kicker is a good plan too yes ? Ok I better get moving.. lots of work to catch up on.. oh joy.. take care all, Tracy |

Larry and Tracy,
The height on the trailer from ground to tip of light on
radar arch is 11'8". I have an aluminum trailer made by Magic tilt
and the boat does set down a little between the fenders.
The motor size; I have a Suzuki 150 hp on mine. I read an article in a
magazine once that said you should power a boat as close to the top
recommendations as you can. Both boats the owners claim to get great
fuel economy. Full load gear, canvas top and with 4 adults I get
27mph top end. If you look over the site you will see
everyone has their engine of choice but on the cd25 usually have
at least 135 hp. I want to put a kicker on mine and just haven't yet. |

Or consider the Airhead, a superior solution to either a blackwater holding tank or a PortaPotti.
