Hi, tomorrow my Bride and I take the keys to a 2004 25' Cruiser in Des Moines. We've been looking for some time and finally found just the one for us! Having been lurking in the shadows here for some time (mostly in the for sale forum...) it seems that there is likely a custom for naming/renaming a vessel.

Any advice/suggestions for picking a name?

Thanks for the help several of you have kindly given along the way, we have benefited by your thoughts and experiences! We are looking forward to meeting and getting to know many of you in the days ahead.

In the immediate future I need to find a deserted dock and learn to sheppard this beauty in and out without a calamity! - Rolling Eyes ALL suggestions are welcomed! Some time ago I heard about a county boat dock that might not have much activity this time of the year but I've lost track of it's name/location.

Ron

I think I saw your boat being lifted out of the water on Tuesday when I was there keeping an eye on an opening for our C-Ranger Tug.

The best of names seem to be a play on words about something that you are passionate about. What does the boat really mean to you.

From Des Moines the closest county dock is over at Dockton on the west side of Maury Island.

PW-

Congradulations on your new boat!

Dreaming up boat names is a fun part-time avocation!

I sometimes think of really crazy, bizzare things, only to finally stop and reralize that the average person that sees it on the transom won't have a clue to what I'm thinking about. Then you also have to consider that you'll be using the boat name on the VHF radio, which could make some names akward to say the least.

Don't rush to a conclusion, enjoy the process and let it find it's own course, it's a great adventure itself!

We have Denaming and Christening Ceremonies in the Documents Section of the Forums.

Then too, we have the very capable and esteemed Reverends Dave and Jim to assist you in your ceremonial endeavors. They don't work for free, but booze does the trick very well! Best scheme is to have them do the deeds at a C-Brat Get Together so that all your new friends can enjoy the solemn nonsense together. You're fortunate to be close to many of the CBGT's in the Seattle area.

Welcome Aboard!

Joe.

And of course the proper beer to use in both the bribery and the christening can be researched HERE

Ron, congrats on your new boat, you're gonna love it. Hope you can make some of the get-togethers we have at nearly every corner of the US, makes owning one of these boats that much more enjoyable (and informative). Good luck on the renaming, I'm sure it will be just fine.

Ron

Congratulations!!!

Can't suggest the where, but you're sure right on deserted dock and practice. Just fender up good and go for it. That's what we did.

We too bought used and renamed. Had our own private fun ceremony.

Jay

I also have to add a note to the effect that I've also heard of a private Christening Ceremony that involves the new Captain and his Admiral going out in their new boat and getting lost and taking care of business in a nice, secluded, private anchorage. This could be fun, too! Wink

CAUTION: Do Not Try This While Running On Autopilot in Congested Shipping Lanes or the Like.

Wishing you a long, plesant voyage in your new C-Dory! Rainbow

Joe.

A re-name is bad, bad Karma unless the sea gods are properly appeased. Might I suggest:

You might want to look at this thread - one I started where I asked the question about what to name my boat http://www.c-brats.com/viewtopic.php?t=5286
Key point I discovered is that you are only asking for trouble when you ask a question like that to the C-Brats. Its like asking what is the best C-Dory, 16, 19, 22, 25 ? Ask two C-Brats a question and you'll get at least three or four different opposing opinions. By the way, I already know what the ideal C-Dory is (the one you currently own).
Cheers,
Tom

If you are the one that got your hands on the Viking Lady you are a lucky SOB. Have seen and drooled over that boat for a couple of years. It is rigged out nice. Congrats. Hope to see you out there
