I recently purchased Liberty Call from Doug, great boat. I'm just waiting for more time to use it. I took it out for a test run in Wa with Doug and ran great with the twin 40's. As I brought the boat back to Mt Ele 3500 feet, the first run I noticed I lost about 500 RPM off the top I kinda expected that. It would be nice to get it back.
In speaking to a local honda dealer I asked the difference between the 40 and 50 as they arr the same displacment and weight. the dealer told me the only difference is a restrictor plate between the carb and manifold.
Does anyone know if this is accurate? I know Honda probably isn't willing to divulge this info. But it would be nice to be able to add 20 hp without having to repower. I suspect theres more to it than that. So all you knowledgeable doryites what the skinny? Anybody know the real difference between the 40 and 50 hp? mbw |

If you don't get an authoritive answer, ask Les Lampman, one of your members who is a co-ower of EQ Marine and a Honda Dealer on Whidby Island.
Send him an email at the link above, as he's usually too busy to monitor this site fully.
If you do, let us know what you find out!

the service manual for our 1999 Hondas has different specs for the camshaft, valves, carb jetting and more. It looks like you would have to re jet the carbs, buy a new complete cylinder head and a CDI unit.
Les would have the definitave answer though, there aint nothing he doesn't know about these engines _________________ Ken
