Hey Brats!
Any of you with experience in shipping a C-Dory to Alaska from the lower 48? Seattle to Anchorage?
We have shipped cars before but never a boat. |

While at Ketchikan last year I saw a C-Dory on a trailer on top of a lot of cargo boxes on a big barge heading north from there. _________________ David and Kate

I have shipped boats from Seattle to Alaska using Northland Services. Obviously, you would want it on a trailer. I have used other barge services, however I feel Northland to be the most professional. They have regular barge services coming up. I have contacts there that can help you out, so let me know if you decide to do it. |

C-Dude,
Thanks for the tip. If I get a serious Alaska buyer I will certainly be in touch with you.
Have any of you heard of taking advantage of the Alaska Ferry that runs from Bellingham Washington to Alaska. Do you know if it is a possibility to put a trailer on board if it doesn't have a tow vehicle? |

I believe if you put it on TOTE, it will be inside and protected from the weather of the crossing more so than on a barge. You are probably looking at $2500 or so to do it.

My friend just shipped up a 30' enclosed trailer with a plane in it from Seattle to Anchorage for $3500. Wow
I am very interested in these shipping cost from Seattle to Anchorage as I plan on buying a 22' just like this one in August. So, if you are still selling then, will fly down. |

C-Sick is still on the market. A number of lookers but nobody has signed the dotted line. Wish like heck I had the weekend off to take her one last time to Lopez.
A lot of interest from Alaskans. Having spent time on Prince Williams Sound with Seward as the home port I can sure see why. |

If trying to get it to Alaska find someone that is driving up without a tow. I just made the Tacoma-Anchorage trip two weeks ago and had nothing to tow back and would have been happy to do it..
Last year I towed a 28' Airstream from Fife to Anchorage for the price of down/back fuel. Good deal for both as the shipping co's wanted $4k to ship it.
I will be making the trip again next spring about mid-April.
We have driven the highway 58 times in the last 40 yrs so we are pretty familiar with it.
Just an idea. _________________ On the HIGH TIDE-II, wife Carolyn and I.....Another summer fishing on the HIGH TIDE II in the Cook Inlet at Cape Ninilchik, Alaska.

for a small fee and gas I could be talked into tralering up there for a buyer. I have the time and have never been there so it would be fun. Susan and i could take a week and run up and back if some one else paid for the gas. we have a f-350 and a camper so no hotels. just a idea. _________________ Thomas J Elliott

We shipped three boats to Sitka via Northland and had zero problems. Alaska Marine Lines (aka AML) also ships. Norland is usually less but tends to have fewer sailings. Not sure about Anchorage service though. |

Jack, Tom, Chivita....
Thanks for the tip about paying for someone to tow the boat to Alaska.
Tommorow I am taking a serious looker out on the Sound.
If the boat is not the right boat for him I will be posting it on Craigs' List.
I hope your posts will perk up the interest of the Alaska crowd.
Meanwhile Ranger will begin production on our Tug this coming week. For those who still haven't been aboard a Jeff will have one at the Puget Sound Trawler Fest in Poulsbo June 7-9.
PS... My prospect is running to the usual run around with the Bank on the NADA value of the boat. Any suggestions on how to get around that? |

Home equity loan? Also, I found the custom appraisals from Boat/US
to be useful. They were pretty spot on for the TC24, and there aren't
many rarer than that one. These lookups are done for members, and
are gone over by a person who does more than look up numbers in
a book.
Hard to say if a bank would take that into account or not. They are
not hard to insure if you get a 'yacht policy', so that should help the
bank.
How about a company that specializes in boat loans? Such a company
should be able to fogure out what a C-Dory is pretty easily its value.

Thanks Mike,
You are right on about dealing with lending sources that know boats and specifically know C-Dory. Sea Ray Fife who is the new dealer for C-Dory had no problem qualifying a potential buyer verses his efforts to finance through Bank of America.
The future is bright for C-Dories with the new prices increasing at about 5% a year. Too bad gas prices are making for a softer market than normal.
The truth is C-Dory is still one of the most economical boats on the market.
Can you imagine owning a gas hog with gas at $3.50 a a gallon.
It will be a sad day for me when I close on C-Sick. I have loved owning her and cruising the Northwest waters. |
