Raymarine is about to release v4.25 series software update to the C series displays. More details can be found at the Raymarine site Animated tides, animated current, more engine data, the ability to use most of the features of the Navionics Platinum cartography, and my favorite - a compass databar.

Some confusion still exists as of 3/26 at the Raymarine site since they say it's released but their links point to the 3.18 upgrade, however methinks it will be corrected soon. If any Brat is able to download the new 4.25 software, please put a note in this thread.

Don

So in everyday terms. 1. You need a flash card reader. 2 You take the flashcard out of the chartplotter and put it in the flash card reader. 3. You download the new version onto your chip and then put it back in the chartplotter.

Yes?/No?

So if you don't have a flash card reader I assume you can take your chip out of the chartplotter and give it to Pat A, who has one and he can perform this wonderful thing. YES?

NO! The drill seems to be as outlined on the Raymarine Site:

Download the .zip to your computer and unzip
Put a blank (fomatted) CF card into your cardreader
Drag/drop the unzipped files onto the card
Remove the Navionics card from your chartplotter
Insert the CF card containing the unzipped files into the chartplotter
Follow the prompts
OR
Call Pat.
The Raymarine ppl are quite emphatic about NOT putting Navionics cards in a card reader and messing with them.
Raymarine seems to obsess about SanDisk cards. I used an old Canon 16mb card successfully. Seems to me Pat may have used a non-SanDisk card also.

I just got their VIP e-mail.

Haven't tried it yet.

The question is, will it over-ride the card that I used for the first update? Or am I going to have to figure a way out to delete the card I last used?

Just did mine. Works perfectly if you follow the instructions on the RayMarine site.

In particular, after you download the file and unzip it, remember to take the two files OUT of the folder before you put it on the flash card. The display cannot find it if you simply transfer the whole folder.

If you have an older update on your flash card you just have to select the right version when the unit boots up with the update menu. If in doubt, delete the old version first.

And please don't try it with your Navionics card or you will be begging for a new one !!! Use a clean fresh Flash card !!!

Now I will have to go out and buy all those extra "toys" such as AIS, Sirus weather radio, navionics platinum, auto pilot etc etc etc. NOT !!

Hey Grumpy -

Could you be talked into bringing the update to Lopez? We could update "the fleet" while we are there....I would guess I will need it too.

Mac,
If you have your display unit you can do it "Off Line". Just needs 12V on two pins and takes abouot 20 seconds. Kingfisher is back in the shop to finish the canvas so I just did my spare unit. (Don't ask !)

I have the new update on a sandisk and will bring it to Lopez. Haven't installed it on C-Cakes yet but the info on Raymarine's website looks good. If you have raymarine electronics and have registered them, you can get into their "insider" pages and see a good description of the update. Looks like it also has the ability to diplay a compass heading at the top of the screen. Thats interesting.

It's all good "Stuff" but I would have preferred it if they had spent the money on practical improvements like moving the Sequim marina 50 yds left so it corresponds to the chart ! Wink
