I have read nearly all the 64,000 posts on here, and very, very few have made my eyes misty as yours did today, Nick and Marcia. I feel at once so sorry for your loss and so blessed that you thought us enough of a family to share it.

Dear Nick and Marcia,
Our hearts ache for you. Many of us know the sadness of losing a furry family member. The pain is tough to deal with, but will gradually be replaced by all the wonderful memories. Our pets depend on us for their needs, but ask so little for the unconditional love they give back. Please know that many of us will be thinking of you and Valkyrie tonight.
Our sympathies,
Jim & Joan B. (and Molly the C-Brat cat) _________________ Jim & Joan

We are so sorry to hear about Valkyrie. I was just a little more than a year ago that we lost our Airedale, Winston to cancer also. It just seems so unfair that we can't keep them with us longer.

Nick and Marcia,
I’ll have to say I’m with TyBoo in that I am a little misty eyed. What a sweet dog!! Dee and I have had mostly labs lately. It’s always hard when you loose a friend and furry family member. I know under your circumstances it is especially sad. Thanks to all for posting some photos and to Nick and Marcia for sharing their joy and loss with us. We will be thinking of you. I’m going to go home now and give Troy and Belle some hugs. This work stuff can wait for another day.

It is ironic that this very night my wife and I looked over at our beloved cat Doogan snoozing away on the couch, and said it will be so hard when he goes. He's 14 and a very big part of our life. Then I see your post and know that you are going through this sad time and know how hard it must be. Remember that they never live as long as we do, and that we have dominion over Gods animals and that if we treat them with kindness and love they have had a blessed life. It sounds to me like you have done your part and for now your work is done. _________________ Gary & Gerrie former Minnie Swann owners

We were so sorry to see this post -- as dog owners we know how traumatic losing a loyal pet can be.

As a veterinarian it is hard for me to think of anything to say that will make a difference because I know too well the sense of loss you feel. I just hope it helps to know that all of us understand how you feel and that our thoughts are with you tonight. _________________ Steve and Colleen Torrence

Marcia and I want to thank all of you for your kind thoughts, words and prayers which have brought us solace during a sad time. Your posts, emails and PM's were very poignant.
When Marcia read this thread, it brought tears to her eyes, especially after seeing Valkyrie's pictures on the cover and in the thread - thanks Bill and Pat.
Things are proceeding here at Airedale Central. Tao, our little Siamese buddy, who used to sleep with Val, is still looking for her, but has started to cuddle with Freyja, our eleven-year-old, much to our surprise and her dismay. Freyja keeps looking at the empty bed in the corner of the family room, as well.
We also have a bold, brash and woolly five-month-old puppy, Boomer, who had started taking lessons in the art of pheasant-finding from Valkyrie. He's getting lots of attention, after being somewhat neglected for the last few weeks. I'll take him hunting next week, which will be somewhat bittersweet, but good for both of us.
Once again, thanks for your kindness. We feel privileged to be part of the C-Brat family.
Sincerely,
Nick and Marcia

Nick & Marcia -
I've been told there are people who really connect with dogs - and then there's everybody else.
Those of us in the first group are particularly attuned to your grief. Personally, I lost 20+ pounds with the death of my last retriever and, I've got a 12+ sweetheart, whom I'm hoping will stay healthy for one more season on the boat.
Time will come when another may dog make sense for you. You'll know it because you'll feel there's something missing when you get home or are heading out on the boat on a bright sunny day.
All my best
Phil |
