Steve Sea Spray-

Thanks so much for the valuable information. I would not have known that.
I for one will be taking your advice for coming in from the North. Those coming from the South should also head Steve's advice.

Sincerely,

Jim

Pat Daydream-

Steve Dora-Jean did a good job answering your question. Also, early posts for the event explain the reservation situation.

In fact, we still have one extra unfullfilled reservation due to Mike Sealife dropping out. Anyone have a wild hair to attend at the last minute?

Sincerely,

Jim Pouncer

Just wanted to give anyone who's interested an updated fishing report for my area.

The sturgeon are still pretty thick in the Grizzley Bay/Moth Ball Fleet area the past week and soaking salmon roe/lamprey eel is your best best.30-45 feet depths seems to be holding the most fish.

Stripers are being pick up trolling but alot of the fish are breeding up river right now.

Halibut fishing is really starting to pick up with keepers starting to show up around Berkeley Flats.Oyster Point near S.F Airport has been producing fish but their is a FLEET of boats working the area. Live bait is available in the Berkeley Marina.

Salmon fishing out of the Gate has been hit or miss but Rockfish season just opened up and those limits can be easily obtained once you find a nice rock to fish.

Good luck to all that give it a shot and have fun enjoying the beautiful Delta that I love to call home.

Dear Extravaganza Fishermen/women:

Just some last minute follow-on fishing information. You all know how much I like off-shore King Salmon fishing. Well at this point, the weather does not look like it will cooperate.

The long-range forecast shows 6 to 8 foot swells, with the wind blowing 15 to 25 knots out-the-Gate. In fact, the swells are almost square at 8 feet by 8 seconds, which is brutal.

Assuming this forecast holds for next Saturday, Pounder will not be going out the Golden Gate, even though the Kings have started to come North to Druxbury Bouy. My neighbor caught two 25 pounders there on this last Saturday using Crokodile lures, waterman color.

Our best fishing bet for this trip may be Stripper fishing at Wheeler Island, by the water pump there. I will bring some frozen sardeens for anyone that wants to try their luck at the Duck Club.

We will really miss the fishing leadership of Roger Fishtales in this regard. I will still bring my off-shore tackle just in case, but I would rather be in the Bay, wishing I was out the Gate, than out the Gate, wishing I was in the Bay.

Sincerely,

Jim Pounder

I am sorely tempted to come down with a bad case of the "fishing pox" and call in sick so I can take Sealifes spot at the dock.
Alas- I am just coming out of the ground on 3 large steel structures here on campus, a critical time to leave. I need to stay and verify that all underground utilities are correct before they are covered with concrete footings.
I'll be missing ya'll-- have fun.

More suggestions for avoiding hy12.

Remember these are only my suggestions. Look closely at your maps or google maps and make your own choice.

Coming from south I5 I would take the 580 split towards San Francisco. You will still be going north. Watch the small exits and take Mountain House Parkway. This is a new road that passes a new housing development. It runs in to J4. Turn left on J4 and go to Byron. Through Bryon J4 ends at Hy4. Turn left on Hy4. (This is end of Hy4 is okay- see previous post) Follow HY4 through Brentwood and Oakley to Bridgehead. Here you will need to take the on-ramp to hy4. Basically the bridge is just to the north and Hy4 turns into 160. You cross the bridge and follow 160 to the Rio Vista bridge.

I hope this is not to confusing. If you have any problems give me a call.

Steve

Dear All Attendees:

This is pretty interesting and is provided for your information.

Two wayward whales have just been spotted swimming in the Sacramento River North of Rio Vista. The mammals, which are a rare sight so far inland, were seen Monday swimming back and forth along a stretch of river near the mouth of Steamboat Slough.

This is not the first time whales have been spotted inside the Golden Gate. In 1985 and 1990, a humpback named Humphrey visited the Bay. During one visit, he made it as far inland as Rio Vista.

It was not immediately known what kind of whales were seen Monday near Rio Vista. A sea lion was also seen swimming nearby.

A Solano County sheriff's boat was seen monitoring the whales and keeping other boats away. Federal law states that it is illegal to get within 100 yards of whales.

Sincerely,

Jim

JOEL-

Go ahead!

There'll be 15 chase boats and at least 100 private vessels in the media fiasco surrounding this latest adventure including

1. U.S. Coast Guard -Station Rio Vista 1/2 miles below town. 2 boats.

2. California Department of Fish and Game. 2 boats, maybe more.

3. Solano, Sacramento, San Joaquin, and Contra Costa Counties Sheriff's Departments. 4 boats, at least.

4. United States Department of Fish and Wildlife. 2 boats, but could make it into a spontaneous "Day Off" / West Coast Convention and Party, with the excuse of testing their alert and emergency response system.

5. California Highway Patrol Helicopter and 4 cars to monitor bridge, road, and ferry traffic and assist with general law enforcement.

6. News helicopters from Bay Area TV stations (Channels 2,4,5,& 7) + same from Stockton and Sacramento- You won't want to be in the air, either!

7. News crews on hired boats as per above TV + newspaper representation. Wanta rent out your C-Dory as a charter boat to host a news crew??? (@$500/day?)

8. "Some" of the Delta's 10,000 private boats will undoubtably show up to join in on the party!

GOT TO GO NOW, I'M GETTING THE BOAT READY TO GO DOWN THERE AND JOIN IN MYSELF!

JOE. Smile

Thanks Steve (Seabran) for the highway warnings and alternate routes. I'll definitely follow your advice if I get there before 4pm.

Well I think I got rid of the nasty spyware software I picked up. I used Lavasoft's adaware free software.

I plan on getting to Rio Vista sometime Tue. after noon. It looks like we may have fair conditions for this time of year. The winds are predicted to be 5 to 15knts mornings and increasing to 20knt in the afternoons until Saturday. No small craft warnings!

Joel - I have some big hooks and those 2 new poles I won at the factory party. If we work together with two boats we might be able to catch those big guys Shocked

Looking forward to having fun!

Above is the latest marine forecast web address, I took the New Hammerhead out of Bodega Bay last Sat. Was rough but fishable, although I did not catch any. Opted to head back in and wait for a better day.

You all have fun on the Delta cruise, sorry I couldn't make it this year as wife is recovering from surgery.

Doug Hammerhead-

Thanks for the weather forecast. Maybe next year you will be able to come.

These Delta Whales are amazing. Humpback variety, up to 50 feet long and weighing a ton per foot, if I heard that right!

Sincerely,

Jim
