After 23 yrs. I am going to replace the seats in my CD. The original ones are pretty shabby.
I purchased two new 21" wide big man(read big butt) seats from Cabellas. There is no hardware with them and the bottom frame is made out of plastic egg crate with no threaded holes. There is 6 stainless machine screws???
Does anyone have a suggestion for attaching them to the boat. My plan is to cut 1/2" plywood pieces just slightly smaller than the seat base and epoxy/screw the plywood to the seat. Then screw up through the boat cabinet into the plywood to secure them.
They sure are spiffy looking seats but will probably not last as long as my original ones.

Jack,

Your plan sounds about like my installation of a new helm seat a year ago, except I didn't use plywood on the seat.

The bottom of my helm seat had numerous holes in the reinforced plastic bottom (looked like Cabela intended them to be screw holes).

Since there was no instruction sheet or template of the seat bottom, I made a pattern of the seat bottom using wax paper. Transferred the hole locations to where I wanted the seat, and drilled the holes. The final step was to insert the screws from the bottom.

The whole process ('er...'er...'er...) worked well.

And if your present wife won't go for it, trade her in on that 25 year old girl you've been lusting after and buy the new boat too!

Joe.

Hey Jack.... I took the pilot's seat out of my boat...it's blue... and in excellent condition... if ya want it...send yer Cabella's seat back and I will give ya mine.. Although I took er off because I diden't like it...The seat I replaced it with was from West Marine and I also installed a rubber cushion mount under it...(look at my pictures) make you sit about 1 1/2" higher and helps visibility...also makes the ride softer.

Hi Jack,
If you don't jump on Joel's lind offer like a flea on a hound dog, you might take a look at Greg's seat mods on his Red Fox. You'd have to get onto his RedFox website.

I assume yer talking about the new one... it's nice...and firm, with a back bolster that really helps... also has a bolster under your legs that makes sitting more comfortable... I had to order it from West Marine although I am sure there are much less expensive places to get it...just look at the Garelick website... I think it was something like $65......I also installed a Garelick Active seat suspension unit...somthing like $120...takes the shock out of a bouncy ride...(sorta)

It was the Garelick Active seat suspension unit that I was interested in. How much does it move up and down. Any how does it work. I have air ride seats in my work trucks and have had spring over rides in pass trucks but I have not seen one like this before.

I used to have an 18 foot Seaswirl with little fold down jump seats in the cockpit-Nothing fancy but they really did the job. I would like to add something similar to my 16 foot cruiser cockpit, but I cant find them at the usual places. Any suggestions? Thanks.
