Hi Brats,

I just posted some photos in our album of the LED reading lights that I recently added to the cabin.

One was mounted on the dash, port side, and it can be shone over the shoulder of a person sitting at the dinette or when lying down when the table is in berth form.

A second was mounted on the port side, aft of the last side window and can be used for either reading or illuminating the table. Both of these light are 9 LED units and were bought from www.sailboatstuff.com

I removed the factory lights from the v-berth and installed two 6 LED units, one to port and one to starboard. Either one will light up the berth area.

I'm very pleased with the quality and output, plus the fact that they only draw milliamps.

Hope that this may help someone else.

Best regards,

Nick

Thanks for the pics..............very helpful as we planned on doing that one of these days. It is nice to to know you are satisfied with them. Have you put reading to the test.........? Are they adequate for a late night scrabble game??

They are great for reading, but for any board games I think we would probably use the factory overhead light, which has more of a diffused and warm quality.

Most nights we put the seatback cushions against the hull and stretch out across the cabin to read. I put my feet on the helm seat and Marcia props hers against the galley area.

The LEDs are really great in lighting up the v-berth and for reading. The directional quality is great, which avoids the light-in-your-face aspect of the factory lights.

Oh yeah, we have two red LED courtesy lights mounted near the floor in the maincabin, which are unbelievably bright, but the photos didn't do them justice. Also, we have two white LED courtesy lights mounted in the cockpit, just aft of the storage bins, one on each side. They are great for socializing at night, not too bright, but add a nice atmosphere and light up the cooler when we go for another cold one.

I've seen battery-powered LED pucks for sale (maybe at Costco?) and given the low draw of the LEDs would think they would work well, without the hassle of running power to them. Thoughts from the gallery?

The ones that I have seen are appropriate for lighting a closet or other small space, not really sufficient for reading and they aren't as directional as a swivel light would be.

Also, the ones pictured in our album have 9 LEDs per light. I bought some from Boater's World with 21 LEDs, made in China, and they were pathetic. It seems that this is a case of you get what you pay for.

If the price is right, give them a try and return them if unsatisfied.
