Lake Washington Cruise Redux.

Well, I've got to give this thing some closure, in a positive way. Me and The LIZZIE are planning to meet the Argosy/C-Dory cruise at the freshwater side of the locks on January 26 at about 1330 and escort them to their berth in Lake Union. Anyone who would like to join me with their boat is welcome. Nothing formal, no sign up. Just bring yourself and your horn and your "Welcome Byrdman" sign. Clock Star Peace

Pat-My neighbor told me that, before I moved out here 5 years ago, the sun always shined and the wind never blew. He says it's all the fault of people moving up here from California. I told him that I'm from NJ and he said "that's the same thing". I don't know whether to up my meds, get a full-spectrum light bulb, or put in another sky light. The guy at ACE hardware said I should go fishing. Bat

Marty - I think the Ace guy gave you the right advice.

Down here where I am, we are not worried about folks from California moving in, we worry about the folks from Seattle.

I was born in a small town not too far from where we now live and raised between Oregon and Washington. I did a stint (2nd marriage) that took me to California for 5 years, then off to Joisey for 6. When I moved back here in '95, summertime, on I-5 going home from work out of downtown Portland, someone screamed at me (windows were down and I still had Jersey tags on the Exploder) "GO BACK TO NEW JERSEY!!!" I've always wondered if that person was born here Rolling Eyes Not exactly friendly!

I agree...fishing cures everything Wink

Caty, no wonder you like the water so much, 'cause last I checked that would be the Columbia River...... Laughing

Well, I'm looking in this "go fishing" thing. It's complicated. I just want to put a worm on a hook and throw it over the side. Isn't there some kind of 'old fart' license that will let me do that, without studying area maps, keeping logs, and getting fancy poles and shiny thingys. Then I have to get past this woman cop with a clipboard and a gun. I think she's border patrol.

I had mentioned to some C-Brats at the SBS last year how polite the drivers were in the NW. I was told it was because we had a rental car with Washington plates. When we came back to the area this summer and hauled a CD-25 all around, the drivers were still nice to us (of course, the plates weren't from CA or NJ Wink ). Texas has the most aggressive drivers I've experienced... may be the proximity to Mexico where the driving laws and customs are different (pass on the left, pass on the right, pass on the sidewalk - it doesn't matter as long as you can pass! Disgust ). Heck, a trip to the store around here is like a NASCAR race. Maybe that's why I like to spend so much time on the boat? Laughing

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Talk about a tangent to the topic, but you started it! Washington DC for me has always been the worst for aggressive drivers that I've encountered.

And an added bonus, if you're a pedestrian -- YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS! Almost got run-over (literally) while crossing a street in a crosswalk with a green light...not once, but several occasions - that's when I asked a couple of questions about right-of-way (hey, a 'semi' boating topic).

When I was a kid in the '40's my mom would take me into New York City about twice a year. She couldn't wait to get into Macy's, on 34th St. She would literally drag me from Penn Station, down the south side of 34th St and, in the middle of the block she turned smartly to the left. looking staight ahead to the entrance of her beloved Macy's she would march across 6 lanes of traffic in the middle of the block. Today there is a pedestrian crossing light at that spot, the DinahP memorial crossing light. Nightmarewise, that experience is right up there with the exam I didn't study for.Shocked

I was wondering if anyone was interested in going out to meet the Argosy Friday. If weather permits I think I will give it a try. I have a vacant seat on Little Buddy if anyone is interested in a ride on a 16 Angler.
