Gemini will launch Saturday morning, May 5th. It sounds like Friday night is at Wahweep and then Saturday everyone heads east, maybe Padre Bay for Saturday evening and then on to Gunsight Sunday. Just a suggestion for the first few days.
Waynes world (www.wayneswords.com) is saying that the fishing is at peak for the next few weeks so I am looking forward to some Striped Bass dinners.
Did we agree to monitor Ch 68 for updates on the lake? |

likely be alone tell spousal unit comes around the ninth. See ya there, I
hope its a big lake.

We won't be able to go to Lake Powell
My wife had a medical problem flare up and the doctor said better not go. It is improving thought so just bad timing.
I will see those of you going to the Delta trip, sorry to miss the rest.

That's too bad Steve and Karen, glad she's on the mend. You guys probably did more planning for this trip than anyone, but hey, the lake will still be there in the fall and next year!
Looking forward to seeing you at the Delta (...still praying for the wind gods to take a break for that week). _________________ Steve & Carmen

Wild Blue and crew will be leaving Phoenix tomorrow, hope to make it to Wahweap before sunset. The weather weasels are predicting some chilly weather for the weekend - we may have to dig out some long pants. See y'all there!
Best wishes,

Wild Blue is in the water at Lake Powell. We had supper tonight with Steve (Gizmo) and John (Clara). They are planning to head up the lake tomorrow morning, we'll spend another night at the marina to wait for the rest of the folks who are coming in.
It was a gorgeous day here in the high desert, got into the low 80s, dry and sunny. We saw a beautiful moonrise on the walk back from the restaurant at Wahweap. Looks like we're due for a change of weather in the next couple days, with some pretty chilly stuff predicted.
I'll be posting some photos in the next few days - this is a beautiful area!
Best wishes,

We got off to a late start and are not making as good time as we thought we would. Due to my wife's health issues, we are taking it easy. I think we will probably be in the water on Friday, maybe Saturday at the latest.
Due to my lack of experience with anchoring, etc. I am going to look into getting a slip at Wahweap and use that as my base of operations. Hopefully that won't impact hooking up with the Brats.
We will monitor channel 68.

Wild Blue, Looking forward to meeting up with the C-Brats at Wahweap on Friday. We should arrive in the early afternoon. Looks like the weather event may not effect the Wahweap area, other than some wind. Temps should be back in the 90's by Sunday. _________________

Gemini launched on Friday from Antelope. The weather is not cooperating for today and it looks like tomorrow may be just as bad.
We motored around as far as Padre Bay and then back to the Marina. We had rollers 4 - 6 feet from this wind so we are going to go back on the trailer and venture out again on Sunday afternoon.
Looks like the rest of the week will be good weather and we will try to catch up with the group then. I hope you all consider taking a slip at Wahweep till this front passes through. ... Jim |

Hi Jim,
Sorry to hear about the bad weather, but it will pass. I would rather be on my boat than going back to work on Monday.
I would like to hear how you like the Antelope launch/marina. Did you launch yourself from the large launch ramp? Do they have a secure place to leave the rig? How much does it cost?
The next time we go to Lake Powell we will probably launch at Antelope.
I hope the wind dies and it is nice for you the rest of the trip.

Steve - we drove back to Flagstaff for the day and had snow; this is really strange weather for May. But Sunday it should clear out and we will go back to Antelope and launch. And the rest of the week looks nice.
I keep my boat here in their Dry Storage and it is really reasonable, $38/ month. Their wet slips are expensive though, $34/nite for transient, so I so I stay out on the beach or back on the trailer.
They have their own ramp, but there is also an NPS public ramp adjacent to the marina. And it is usually less crowded and has better parking than Wahweep, but works just the same as far as fees. Plus I like the location on the Lake better.

A quick update before bedtime... Steve (Gizmo) and John (Clara) went on ahead and are at Bullfrog. Discovery, Rana Verde, and Wild Blue spent last night in a cove near Lone Rock and came back to the Wahweap Marina today to give Warren and Lori (Lori Ann) a hand. We plan to head out early morning for Oak Canyon to meet up with the two early boats. This afternoon/evening was a Cinco de Mayo party in the cockpit of Wild Blue (yes, you can fit 7 people in there under the camperback). The weather turned a bit chilly, rain threatened (but didn't materialize), but the company was warm and friendly.
I promised Dixie I wouldn't say anything about her antics as a groupie... a passing boat asked if they could borrow (??) some coffee for tomorrow. Dixie asked what we would get in return... and the guy pulled out a guitar to "play for his coffee". I can't say anything more.
The scenery is beautiful and we are all anxious to see more! Mother Nature has another couple chilly days in store for us, and then promises to warm things up. Glad to have these cozy boats!
Best wishes,
Jim B. |
