I got the following email from them on Dec 20 after contacting them through their site. I hope they do not mind me re-posting:

--------------------------------

Hello Mr. Bunch!

In a nut shell, Cape Cruiser Boat Works is in the process of restructuring our company. In the mean time, we are temporarily having a business like "siesta". Not to worry though, we'll wake up from our slumber soon enough. Until then, some of our dealers have some stock boats that still have full warranties in place. Business as usual for them.

Take Care! And thank you for your thoughts and concerns for us here at Cape Cruiser.

Have a Merry Christmas!

And God bless you and your family this blessed time of year!

Following the link that Bill posted back on the first page of this thread, it says an appeal was filed on December 22, 2006. Maybe that's what a "business like 'siesta'" is.

Then if you Google the case number, you'll find out how much of a judgment was awarded by the jury on the one issue that made it to trial.

I was amazed that when I was up there over Christmas 2006 it seemed a half dozen local publications had huge, color ads for the Cape Cruisers. Some included language about how sorry you would be if you chose the 'other' boat... or something to that effect.

This thread has been quiet for awhile. Are there any updates with this ongoing saga?

Greetings,

News about Cape Cruiser.

The latest info that I have is that Cape Cruiser is out of the boat building business and that ownership of the molds has been transferred to the C-Dory company by the judge in the lawsuit.

This is the best info that I have, and it may not be 100% accurate.

Also, Granite Boat Works has sold the CC23 that is on their lot.

Cape Cruiser owners are still welcomed here on C-Dory Red Fox.

I had an E mail last week from a CC dealer who still has several boats in stock, and he claimed that Cape Cruiser will finish the boats which they have in production and that then will start new boats (I took this to mean that they may be slightly different than what is currently produced--but I don't know that for a fact.) I was told that the "new" boats would be available in spring 2008.

So unless we hear word from a Judge, we will not know until time has passed.

I took this shot of a new 23' Cape Cruiser a couple weeks ago at Northwest Inflatable Boats. I was told that it was THE last one shipped from the factory. I was also told that C-Dory took possession of 2 unfinished hulls and now owns the molds as well. Notice the different color scheme. This boat has(had) no motors installed. Wallas single-burner, tandem-axle bunk trailer, $38,000.

My guess is that the molds were awarded to C-Dory as partial payment on the settlement award and/or simply because their design was determined to be the rightful property of the current C-Dory manufacturer.

Maybe they'll be used to produce boats by the current factory owners?

Let's see, C-Dory 16, 19, 22, 23, 25, 26, and TC 255?

Joe.

Man this is killing me. Confused I and several of you know what the real gig is. Shocked I have just been , and will continue, to wait for the factory to make the announcement. So hey factory get on with it already. Mr. Green I still think the cape cruiser is a great boat no matter who builds it in the future. Wink

Starcrafttom, are you saying what I think you're saying?

The future of C-Dory may look very different.

Well....I had much rather see something that was Cape Cruiser like coming out of the factory MUCH MUCH MORE THAN SOMETHING THAT WAS MAXIMUM/BAYLINER/SEA RAY looking.... I personally think there are enough blow-n-go/cookie-cutter boats on the market today... Somebody has to take care of us ol'finiky I know they can build a boat that is really useful rather than boats that are just shinny.

Just my thoughts... and who knows what all will be going on between the two plants...or is it three now?
