Hi

Well, the cape cruiser factory guys where just playing a game with us for 2 weeks. Angry

So, we decide not to buy a cape cruiser anymore.

If we find a C-Dory 22 till end of december we will use it for our 2007 expedition.

If we don't find a 22 for any reason till end of december, we then will use a Mac Gregor ... Crook

We just don't have any time anymore to waste on the boat issue, because thats just a little portion of our 2007 exp. planning....

Man, i can tell you guys i am mad like hell... Angry

We lost over 2 weeks for nothing.... Thumbs Down

Regards Chris

I was just looking at the used C-Dory listings....and that 2002 22' C-Dory for $38,000 looks like a real nice deal.... it's not heavily equipped but the price is excellent..... had a single 100hp on it...

Sorry to hear that about the other boat folks..... I guess you can never tell about folks until you talk money....funny what money does to folks.
I think that is one of the reasons we are so loyal to our C-Dory boats...the company is First Class.... the people are what makes the company and we feel more like friends than customers....
Supper boats too !

OK, I'm probably going to regret responding to this, but... for the majority of folks here, the boat (and specifically the C-Dory) IS the important part of our adventures. It kinda sounded to me like the MacGregor reference was a threat, if someone doesn't help you come up with a boat.

I've had a MacGregor (an X), and it is a good boat... for what it is. While I'm not aware of any recent Mac coming apart in tough conditions, it certainly isn't built like the C-Dory (IMHO). It will motor faster than most other sailboats, but don't expect to see 20 knots on that boat with a load. It sails better than any powerboat... but it is a lightly built/rigged boat, designed for protected water. That's not a bad thing, it's just important to understand the design goals and expected usage for any boat.

Your budget, as I recall, was around $32k. There are several 22s listed here that are less than $38k. Perhaps it's time to rethink the budget so you can get the best boat that will be appropriate for your mission? If you truly think time spent selecting the best boat could be time wasted, consider how this expedition would go without a boat.

Good luck with this project.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

I don't say searching for the right boat is wasting time.
i meant we don't have time left, thats different. Rolling Eyes

Well 32k is long ago of the table. We are willing to pay more, but not for a naked boat without anything. Confused

Any offer...???

Prices are way up for boats now, don't know why...

Mac Gregor is not a bad boat, but you are right, its not at all a dory... Crook

I am used to self made boats and folding kayaks so i am not afraid to take a MG , but would prefer a c-dory...

If all goes wrong, i will build my own boat again...
But that would be a pain in the b... Sad

Seems to me if time is of the essence, building a boat would be totally out of the question. Used C-Dorys come up for sale all the time. Some well equipped, some with old but certainly serviceable equipment. With a good hull you're gonna spend the same for electronics as you would on a new one. As far as power, you may get lucky but you may have to spring for a repower. Again, with the right hull at a fair price, you're still good to go at less than new. Ain't nobody, least of all relatively small manufacturers, gonna "comp" you a ride. If C-Dory did, I personally would expect El and Bill to be the most deserving recipients. They have a track record, they are always pro C-Dory, and their web site has brought countless Brats and Brat hopefuls into the fold. I think they got free hats and jackets though.

As for this Brat site, maybe their major contributor will share a little product with you if you come to SBS. How 'bout it nephew Pat, a beer for the intrepid Chris?

Don

I think a C-Dory would be a wise choice....as you see they have a super resale value...so after you are finished you could recoop most of your investment..(easy to sell). the depreciation on a C-Dory is far less than that of almost any other boat out there.... Plus it is a GREAT boat.

I sure hope I don't regret this, but I cant resist. Chris sit back and read some of your posts! Do you see all the emotion portrayed in them? I can imagine the most eloquent salesperson being tested while trying to sell you a boat!
It appears to me that you are either unsure of what you want or unable to afford what you want in which case building might be a good option.
Remember that we are here for the fellowship, insight and humor and for the most part not interested in breaking the only rule.
Plop down your money, buy a C-dory and become one of us and in time you will find this to be a great place. You will also discover far greater treasures here than any amount of river miles will provide!

What about this thread am I missing? Here are C-D22 listings from our for sale column that are near, in, or under that budget:

C-Dorys For Sale
2002 22 Cruiser, $34,000 (St. Augustine, FL)
2000 22 Cruiser, $37,000 (Bremerton, WA)
1999 22 Cruiser, $33,500 (Naples, FL)
1987 22' Angler, $20,000 (Bellevue, WA)
1987 22 Cruiser, $24,900 (Midway, UT)

I've seen the one in St. Augustine and it has more gear aboard than I could even identify.

@Alasgun

I do know exactly what i want... Evil or Very Mad
Well, if the salesman don't want 50K, then it is his problem not mine. I sure would work to get 50 k and not sending confusing mails, and never answer questions, sending close to blank contract to sign... Angry
I am sure you would not sine a contract witch just state the Motor and boat without detailed extra list........ Shocked
Than sending a new contract still most stuff missing and with cheaper electronics and so on....

@ barefoot
Thanks i send some mails out... Thumbs Up

@sneaks
Well, let me get one thing right, we never wanted a boat for free.....

@Captains Choice
Welcome in the real world....

@Brent
One thing is for sure, we wont even think to take a Cape Cruiser anymore.... Angry

It is getting to be somewhat of a joke but I've made it through a 3 week hitch and am headed home today.
My last week here I was on nights and discovered that you guys go to bed pretty early! Many nights I was the only brat with a light on. Idea
I think yuconchris must have solved his boat dilemma too. I went to his site to see what he was all about and stumbled onto his 2007 expedition schedule. I don't read German but from the gist of it it looks like his trip will be in that Cape Cruiser, or maybe not?
Any way I'm tired,Rose thanks for another great week of entertainment and best wishes to all in Dorydom.
