For the past little while we have been quietly working on a special project for our table for the sheer fun of it. Often times we spend a lot of time and money on re-wiring, batteries, wash down systems etc., which are all good, but we decided to do a project just for the heck of it, one that we could just simply enjoy. We went out one Saturday and took some time getting a good picture of the Foggy Dew on Lake Martin, with the fall colors, the water, beach and some old trees. When we were satisfied with the picture we had it transferred on to 12 ceramic tiles (baked in). We chose the surrounding tiles and wood and this is what we ended up with. We really like it and it was a fun time putting it all together. Work in progress pictures in our Foggy Dew projects album. Here is the finished product!

That's slick. Where did you get the photo transfered to the tiles?

Very cool! Thumbs Up

Now that you've got it down, how 'bout one for the house, too, so you can see Foggy Dew anytime.

A very nice job.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Rigby - great looking table. You do have a good looking boat and have made some useful modifications. Your boat album is one I look at for ideas on my boat.

Would you be interested in returning to Alaska and doing the tile work in my bathroom? Only teasing, great looking job though on the table top.

Thanks to all for the compliments, we really enjoyed this project.

There are so many places you can get your tiles done for a huge range of prices. Just do a search for Tile Murals and basically pick one. They suggest using silcone or sandless grout. One big word of caution....do not use sandless grout. Although you can't see it we put many scratches in the tiles even though we were very careful in applying the grout. If we had to do it over again, we would used colored silicone.

We applied the tiles using Liquid Nails to the original boat table after scuff sanding it with course paper. The wood was also glued down with liquid nails.

We are going to replace the original leg, with a nice turned spindle. Haven't found one we like yet. It will still fold up or be detachable. Haven't decided yet on that. Wink

This is truly one of the cooler things I have ever seen! Almost a foregone conclusion that we will have to do this too, David, are you ready for the woodwork? Laughing

That table is really great. I have been playing with the idea of routing out my dinner table 1/4 inch deep in the outline of a salmon or the logo on the side of the boat. Then fill it in with ceramic tile motiff made up of broken tile. Then grout the whole thing. I just need the time and get a few projects out of the way first,
