a/c on c-22

i would like to see the a/c on delta belle?? is there photos of her the c-22 that has the a/c on the roof bought from wefings thanks

Hey Jim! Great to meet you and your wife at the gathering. Yes, I think Marc at Wefings has the picture... I looked in my files and can not find it. I sent him an email and asked him to take a look. They have power at the shop, but not sure how the rest of things are going in town so he might be a bit slower than usual posting.

I do know that Bob Austin on Thataway had some ideas that you may want to ring his bell on... It had something to do with water flow away from the unit or something....and Jeff Brigner on C-Pearl I think followed that input too and may be able to help. Some type of small "pre-mount" platform rather than mounting directly to the roof...or something like that.

On Thataway, we made a wooden frame for the interior contour of the roof curve--this was to avoid flatening out the roof over time and causing water to pool. The balsa core MUST be sealed in the roof top (epoxy is best). It turns out we could have made the inner molding a bit thinner, but when I put in insullation, it will be flush with the AC bottom air handling unit. The outer, also is curved to fit the natural contour of the roof--and is built up of fiberglass and epoxy--made true with straight edges--it is about 1/4" on the extreme outside edeges and about 1/16th in the center--forming a lip to avoid any water intrusion (even with the gasket, water can intrude if there is a low spot there--from RV experience). I have removed some of the photos of all of the construction--but the basics are still in the album.

thanks what size unit is that a 7100 btu what make and model number also are there smaller a/c 's that would work?? like a 5000 btu unit ?lower profile just asking any thought s on going smaller .

JennyKatz... I don't know if this would be possible on a 22, but I am planning to try one of those portable, roll-about a/c units like they sell at Sam's, Wal-Mart, etc. on my TC 255. I use those in the bedrooms of my old farmhouse and they use little current.

I am thinking the 7,000 Btu unit would fit just forward of the front dinette seat, or on the forward bunk. The 5,000 Btu units are smaller. The drain line could be run back to a bilge pump if the a/c unit was sitting low, or if it was sitting on top of the seat, it could drain overboard. I am thinking of strapping one of those units in place during the hot months, and removing it in the Fall.

The intake/exhaust is designed to go out of a window, but one might be able to install a dorade or similar vent for a more permanent installation. The bottom third of those roll-about units just houses a water collection tank, so maybe that part could be removed.

Any chance of interior photos? One point I've heard mention is that A/C vents
will hang down, robbing you of head room.

I will try to take an interior photo tonight. I am 5'11" plus have a rubber floor mat (can' remember the name) which is about 1/4" tall and still do not hit the vents.
I have seen photos of C-Dory's with a lower external profile unit but this was the unit offered by Wefings and we are very pleased with the performance.

Dr. John: Yes, I too had looked at the roll around type and that exhaust tube that is needed is what stopped me...and the price of the unit when compaired to the simple 5,000 BTU window unit for $85.... But, I did not give it the time or a chance.... I was hot...I had 3 days in a row to stay on the boat, it was hot and humid, I had the 1x3 wood and some bungy cords and foam insulation laying around... and my back window let down on the TC24 so I was able to "rig" it up in less than an hour, (with a little duct tape or Alabama Chrome of course), and no holes drilled in the boat. Your idea for sure warrants some time and effort.

Bob/Thataway: Please send me the photos you have via email. I want to build a little "how we did it" brochure. Once you sleep with AC on your rig down here in the SE and do not have to worry with humidity, heat, or INSECTS..... and get a great nights sleep.... you never really want to do without it again.

I may be wrong...but I think the little 5,000 BTU Coleman rig will do fine for a CD22, and maybe even a CD25 for night use with one of the handy easy to toss about 2,000 Honda gensets....

Byrdman, the large air hose fits onto a "funnel-like", plastic vent tube that gets shut in the window. It is about 8 inches long by 2 inches wide, so ought to shut into a C-Dory window with little problem.

We'll see, after I get the boat and do more measurements. I already own three of these portable units, so have something to experiment with.

I am not brave enough yet to try to mount a small window a/c in the TomCat, but I have seen some van-like motorhomes that provide a cowling into which one sets such an inexpensive window unit.

Sounds great John....particuarly with you already having the units. I agree, it would be way easy to fix a window vent with a little time, thought and efforts. Now.... my "quickey" set up is pictured in the photo albumn of FreeByrd. Before you look...it was a proto-type...just to see if it would work/cool/stay in place in ruff waters...etc.... and it did. My intent was to get one of the two dockmates of mine to take the ugly proto-frame to their custom cabinet shop and cover it with bead board, with the 3 exposes sides having piano type hinges or some stainless hinges at the base of the AC unit. THis would have allowed for the 3 sides to be "flapped up" and cover the ugly unit when not in use...and at the same time, it gave me a "storge spot" for the 2nd smallest Big Green Egg that I like to grill with...and is Coast Guard approved for use on a vessel. But, the offer from the cabinet makes did not happen...no matter how bad it looked, and for sure, if covered....we would have lost a lot of great laughs and dock talk.
