I ran across these fenders in a magazine. Might be good for rafting, pilings, etc. Has anyone here used them?

I saw those at a boat show a while back. My first thought was: a minute to inflate each fender (assuming perfect conditions) - sometimes you need a fender NOW. Probably good for the use you suggested, just wouldn't want them as my primary, unless you keep them inflated all the time... and then, wouldn't any fender do? |

I agree, I was thinking of them as secondary fenders, too. Not sure what would be required to inflate them, though. Wouldn't want to carry a big pump on a small boat.

I don't have those particular ones but I did buy some inflatable fenders from West Marine - specifically - this kind. My intended use is for the rare occasion in which someone wants to raft off of me. I'm of the school that says carry no more fenders than you really need. I need two at the dock. No less, no more. I have two regular fenders for that. The two inflatables store nicely and can be pulled out for visitors who wish to raft. Takes a few minutes. No big deal. _________________ Roger on Meant to be |

We carry 5 fenders: 4 of the "sausage" type and one round one. The round one generally goes from the bow cleat back to the aft end of the bow rail and then down. It is perfect when docking, making it easy to "rotate" on the fender. Especially ff the dock space is tight. The other 4 are set up for 2 on each side. When cruising, we have frequently needed all 5 for unusual docking situations. _________________ Jim & Joan

Ideal for rafting with another boat. Danger of puncture next to a piling, from nails etc. Fender board is better there. _________________ Bob Austin
