Now comes the hard part, waiting and thinking about all the knick-knacks you want to install. Your restroom will be full of marine supply catalogs before you know it.

This time last year I was in your shoes, waiting for a new boat. When it finally arrived I was a pest at Alaska Mining and Diving, is it ready yet, is it ready yet?. Towed it home Feb. 28, took it out 2 weeks later, had freezing spray all over it when we got back to the dock, but we were in love with our new favorite pastime.

I think it will be many years before I know if the old adage about the two happiest days in a boat owners life are true, I know the first half of it is.

Congrats. If I was nerd enough to figure this place out I'd put up the firework banner and congratulate you proper Wink

Hey, I look forward to each May with great anticipation since I bought my boat, Sea Lion. It means it's time to get 30 to 40 miles offshore for the Halibut, hehe.

I hope you are as happy with your new boat as I have been with mine. Anyone who fishes around me knows in no uncertain terms what I think about my boat, I love it Love Love Love .

Hope to see pics of you and your family having fun in your new boat soon. Hey, you'll have to come up this way for a shindig. I'd love to get down there for Tuna and other fishes some day....

Congratulations Don!
The nice thing about the waiting time is the getting out the charts and figuring out all the neat places to cruise to and the thought process of ....what else do I need for "my" new boat? Of couse it's not much fun losing all that sleep at night because you are thinking of the new boat! ALL THE TIME! Smile

Hi there-

Being a new participant here, I'm not sure if new boat prices are ever discussed here. I know on Edmunds.com people are very detailed on new car deals they negotiated. We're considering a 2004 22 cruiser with a Honda 90, front window, anchor deck pipe, and double axle trailer. We rec'd a pkg price. Is price an allowable topic for discussion??

Also, is it realistic to sleep 4 on this boat? I figured I could sleep in the cabin and wife, 2 kids, 5 & 9, could sleep up front with her. I haven't had my nose into this boat yet; only viewed pictures here, and the dealer is an 8 hour drive away. I knew C-Ds from 10 years ago while living in Sitka, AK.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Sure, discuss away! We don't call it the Pub for nothin'!

Seriously, I can see no reason why we shouldn't talk about all aspects of the boats. When the one guy who paid the most realizes it and gets the urge to trash his dealer online, we might want to discourage (not censor!) that, but I think we'll find that pricing is pretty much comparable across the country. Perhaps the bottom line prices will vary, but the basis for the pricing is probably pretty consistent. The hull cost won't vary much, and since no two boats are rigged the same (with the possible exception of two red ones at EQ), the accessory choices and installation charges will be the biggest variables.

Just like buying a new car, the value of the deal one signs is determined solely by the buyer's contentment with it.

Some may disagree, but I feel that discussion of new costs can be of great value to the many folks who sign on because they are still looking for the boat to buy that will fit them the best.

And yes, I think the sleeping arrangement you had in mind will work just fine. Family togetherness, and all. Just don't let the kids grow any more!

Don,

Congrats on your new boat. I'm in the same boat... Very Happy
I pick mine up next Wed...but I have some stuff I want to install before it goes in the water...I lived in Alaska for 11 years and still go up twice a year on my buddies 25 foot Glaicer Bay. Sure love Prince William Sound. You're gonna love it!

Have Fun...be safe. Thumbs Up

Mike

Thanks Ty Boo for commenting. Here's the boat, options and price detail:

2004 22 cruiser 28,600
Anchor deck pipe 135
Open front window 295
90 HP Honda 9400
Galv. 2 ax trailer/brakes 3690
prep 340
Total 42,460

WI delivery 1592
Total 44,052

Pkg deal 39,987

Hey, we're contemplating spending quite a chunk of change. I don't have much of an idea if 9400 for the Honda is reasonable, or 3690 for the trailer, 340 for prep. Any comments on how attractive this deal is would be appreciated.

As Mike mentioned, we don't really have any rules around here, other than the main one on the front page - "Just Be Nice!"

RE pricing - you will see very little difference between dealers on the base boat pricing, specifically on the hull and anything that C-Dory installs. You might get a minor boat show discount if you are lucky. The prices you see at the C-Dory factory web site are what you should expect for the most part.

Beyond the above, it's tough to compare; there are a bazillion non-factory options that affect price. Different dealers carry different engines. Even though it sounds like you're looking at Honda, what controls and gauges are being used? RE the trailer - prices vary between manuafacturers, and again - more options to decide on. Bunks or rollers? Drum or disc brakes?

And let's not get started on electronics...

As I see it, you can't discuss new C-Dory pricing as you would with a car. There are way more variables, and there are far fewer of them sold. Still, if you want to post your quote, I'm sure you'll get some good honest feedback. Just make sure and provide as much configuration detail as possible.

I'll break ranks with my buddy TyBoo here - I think this would be far too cramped in a 22. Three in the v-berth - even if two are small children - would be very, very tight.
