When I lower the motor it produces an immediate slick - oil or gas - I don't know.

At idle the slick expands. I'm not using a lot of oil - haven't had to add any in the past fifteen hours - so I'm guessing it may be gas leaking out from somewhere.

That said, the engine seems to be running on all cylinders.

Any ideas on what's causing the slick or how to trouble shoot it would be greatly appreciated.

Phil

It will be easier to locate the problem if you know what it is. Try and get a sample of it from the water, rub it between your fingers and smell. You should be able to tell the difference in smell between the two. One other thing it can be is your gear case oil. Check its level.

You may want to check the carburetor drain screws to make sure one of them is not dripping some fuel. There is one on each float bowl and the bottom one has a drain hose which passes through the lower cowl. You might want to check the lower unit drain and vent screws as well.

Good luck, Randy.
