I recall several folks at the Blakely Island gathering this year talking of getting an Alaska cruise together for like the last week in Jun and the 1st couple of weeks in Jul 2006... Ya'll think this is going to take place? I need some prep time (and bank rolling of a little boat funds) to be ready to pull FreeByrd back up there for a month.
Any interest.... or do I just need to book a week or two on Princess? |

OK, it was "The Seeds of an Idea"...current status for us, more or less: my friend Dave Olson and I, and possibly Dave's son, take Daydream up from Blaine to Ketchikan maybe the first or second week of June 2006, take about a week (Patty does NOT like long days running). Patty takes ferry up to Ketchikan from Bellingham, meets us in Ketchikan. Dave flies home (Dave is an old Alaska hand, he's about 75 and thinks this will probably be his last trip). Pat & Patty cruise Alaska for another week or so. Then Boat Buddy Otter Bellhaven-Marina (Tom and Kathy) fly in to Ketchikan to cruise Daydream back down to Bellingham, Pat & Patty fly home. Only fly in the ointment, we have not had confirmation from Otter Tom that he will be able to do this, although we had some indications of what I would call "strong interest." Patrick, we would love some company (and some 'Bama Q of course)!!!!

interested. working the issue of taking my wife sherryl and mother on a cruise in the "may06" time frame. Sherryl can only take so much time off. I on the other hand am not so constricted. but cash is an issue. so... let me look at attempting this... I drive my boat up and park it somewhere prior to the "may-ish" cruise with them, then, go back to the boat and hook up with whoever may want to join us ....then, after we are done, I drive back to Bama. May want to do another Nashville gathering in late March/early Apr 06 too. Several of us enjoyed that. ...but will start another link on that to keep these two seperate.

OK Gang! I see that about 189 have viewed this and Pat-n-Patty are the only ones who replied so I take it this is not the makings of a group c-dory gathering up for Alaskan inter passage cruise. Hope to see yall in Seattle during the boat show in Jan06.

Pat (Byrdman),
In my case, I would love to do that trip. And in fact want to. But not having a job at the moment really makes saving the boat bucks and time required tough. I MIGHT see us doing something like that in 3 or 4 years though! _________________ Gary Johnson

I will make the trip - just not sure when. I still have a 14 year old and a couple of college kids that may be home for the summer. Not sure if I want to drag the young one along for a month, and I do want to have a house left when I return! Could leave the wife in charge and head up on my own. Pat-N- Patty and Birdman,
Put us down as wanting to make the trip. We would cruise in both directions and spend as much time as necessary for the Alaska, B.C. experience.
Going to the factory about Oct. 31st to oversee the final weeks construction on the new TC255. Helm and Electronics layout and installation. Then a short cruise in the south sound for water trials.

OK, bringing this back up to the top...enough of all this Redskins - Seahawks nonsense, its only a stupid game anyway - C-Dory cruising is LIFE!
Some people have to start putting in for vacation time (me included), or at least planning their time away from a business or whatever. So, here are our dates. Definitely going are Daydream and Anna Leigh. Meet up in Gulf Islands, probably Montague Harbour as early in the morning as possible for departure on JUNE 10, 2006. Departure from Ketchikan JUNE 25, 2006. Pat will have Dave and Alan Olson as crew for the trip up, Patty maybe will, maybe won't fly into Ketchikan for some cruising around SE. Somebody, most likely Rolf Hildre, will cruise Daydream back down, Pat (and maybe Patty) will fly home. David will cruise Anna Leigh both ways. We might push it the first day, but after that, we are sight seeing, folks - and there are a LOT of sights to see! So if you are going both ways, you had better plan about a month, or two weeks for either up or back. And they tell us that if you are planning to fly home, you had better make your plane reservations SOON!
How about a sign up sheet, Bill or Mike?

By boat, inside passage Gig Harbor, WA to Ketchikan, AK is 766 miles
Go flat out all the way - 30 mph - it would take 25 hrs & 32 min. _________________ Dave

Some numbers to consider for the Alaska bound:
Seattle to Ketchikan 660 nautical miles
Our log shows dock to dock overall average speeds at 10 to 11 knots along the inside passage. (Cruising speeds 17 to 18 knots)
Gas at the gas docks was $1.00 to $1.25 per liter last summer in Canada. This is $3.78 to $4.73 Canadian per US gallon or $3.21 to $4.02 US dollars per US gallon.
Its a great run! _________________ Larry H
