How many Brats fish out of Westport? I'm tired of the long and sometimes bumpy ride to the fishing grounds out of Ilwaco and am thinking about giving Westport a try. It looks to me like it would be closer to the fishing grounds and a lot less bumpier....any input would be appreciated

The only down side that I can think of would be the in-ability to laugh and point at the guy with the big radome

This site should shed some light on things Ken. www.how-to-fish.com/how_to_fish_westport.htm, You should check it out.

I've fished out of Westport several times on charters over the years and don't remember conditions being very bad crossing the bar. I suppose it's like any bar crossing. Better times to cross than others. I know one person who fishes it regularily with a 24' Olympic and claims not to pay any attention to the tides.

I've been meaning to give it a try the last couple of years. Sounds tamer than the Columbia and much closer to home. If you decide to go on a weekend let me know and I'll grab a partner and join you.

Tim

We have fished westport for many years! It's my favorite place. Your right about not being as long of a bar as the Columbia. We do watch the tides, an hour or so before low tide at maximun ebb it can and does get rough.
We also take advantage of an area at the tip of the south jetty the locals call "hole in the wall". It's a short stretch of water between the jetty and the sunken jetty. Usually we go out that way unless we are heading north.
Once you are on the south side of the south jetty you are in the ocean, no crossing the bar,Pretty sweet!
Hope to see you out there this summer!

thanks for the info. It sounds like it would be well worth the extra truck gas to haul up there and not have to put up with the CR bar. see ya's there
