We picked up C-Cakes from Les and Kathy at EQ today. Hooray Laughing Laughing . Out and in Deception Pass (pretty calm time) putzed around, great time. The real C-Cakes took her namesake out through Deception Pass with nary a scrape or bump. On the water she's a delight but on land!!! I'm used to hauling a travel trailer and having a wide turning radius but this boat trailer is something else. Lets see...While driving from EQ to home, less than 10 miles I went over a curb pulling out from filling with gas (mortaged my firstborn son to do that Shocked ), came within 6 inches of hitting a parked Miata in a Home Depot parking lot, scraped another curb even after I had left a whole lot of turning room. Whew! Having those wheels so far back makes a real difference. I feel like I need someone steering from the rear like on the old fire dept. ladder trucks. But, didn't actually hit anything other than the curb so my insurance company can breath again.

Tomorrow I'll plot where to store stuff, then Saturday we'll launch at Cornet Bay, play all day, and a week later head out to Lopez.

Looking forward to seeing many of you there.

Congrats Colobear, we know the feeling well! Perhaps we'll see you out there this weekend, we'll be up in the San Juans somewhere.

Congrats on a sucessful shake-down cruise. As to the trailering problem. We all do it once, hopefully. I came into a ramp parking lot and while turning, ran over the back edge of an other boat trailer. No damage. The reason for the wheels so far back is that the engine, which is the heaviest part of our boat, is far back. The wheels should be about at the fulcrum paint of our trailer, less our 5 to 7 % extra weight at the hitch.

Happy sailing.

Fred

Congrats Barry and Patti, Looking forward to seeing your new boat. I am heading towards Lopez about 10-noon friday morning. Where are you launching from? Channel 68 is the channel the C-Brats monitor. Along with 16 of course.

David,

Patti and I will launch from Cornet Bay Friday morning. Not too sure of the time yet. True Story just said they are launching at about 10AM Friday so we may try to do the same. We'd sure like to tag along with an experienced traveller as, except for cruising around Saratoga Passage tomorrow, Lopez will be our first real trip. Whats the drill?

Thanks

Barry and Patti on C-Cakes

Sounds like I will be leaving about the same time from Guemes. I will give you a call on either 16 or 68 when I clear the Guemes Channel and get into Rosario. You will more than likely be going through Cattle Pass on the S end of Lopez. I usually go through Thatcher Pass. If I find you two I will head down and accompany you. First time I went through Cattle Pass it was full tidal flow. Pretty interesting seeing waves actually jump up in the air 4 feet+ and moving at a pretty good clip out of the pass.
