Hi folks,
Are we up to a fall cruise on the eastern end of the Erie Canal this September?

Hi Folks,
I was thinking about the eastern end of the Erie Canal, and maybe the Champlain Canal afterwards to those of us who want to.
We could start at Seneca State Park, and go east to Troy/Albany area.
What do you want to do?

Hi Fred et al,
I was thinking that another option is the Rideau Canal. We could start at Seneca Lake (or further north), go east, then North to Ontario, across to Kingston then up the Rideau. ( We also could start further North in NY by the Thousand Islands to stay in fairly sheltered waters to Kingston.) The Eastern End of Erie isn't as appealing as the half we did last fall, though it is still super, and we'd come there if you guys would rather do that. But, I thought I'd throw out the idea of doing the Rideau. ( Check out El & Bill's site) Is there any interest in doing the Rideau this Fall?

Hello All--The Rideau Canal sounds great, but I think I will trailer to some point north of Kingston. I assume we are talking Kingston to Ottawa for about a week? Probably right after Labor Day? Rich |

September sounds nice... Can't do weekend of 16Sep....but the others at this time appear do-able. Would love for Sherryl to make this cruise...and it be her 1st C-Dory gathering/cruise. |

Hi Folks,
I just looked at my calender. I have to be on Nantucket till about the 15th of September, and have to be back by the weekend of September 30th, when the Blue Angels come. That is why I thought that the Eastern end of the Erie Canal might be good.
I was then thinking of leaving the boat and trailer some where in the Troy Area, and coming back at the end of the first week of October to do the Champlain Canal and lake Champlain.
Just an idea.

Hi Guys,
I'm glad to hear planning is taking place for this fall. My father passed away last week, so that frees up some time for us to do some cruising. Right now, any time in September looks good for us, so let's keep planning. Either the Eastern Erie, or up the Champlain Valley and into Canada sounds good to me. I've alway wanted to do the Rideau Canal, but I also want to complete the Erie....so many choices, so little time!

My thoughts are I am open for any and all travel in that area. I have to be in Bama on the weekend of 16Sep... (SEC Football stuff already paid for)...and could travel up to the 14th, or starting on the 18th...and about a 2 week window would be great...particuarly with fuel prices as they are. The cost of me getting up and back are the same....and the longer I can stay, the more boating days I can devide the fuel cost of the round trip....making my boating days less exspensive.....sort of. Grin.

We vacation several times a year at a cottage on Wolfe Island (with our C-dory in tow of course) which is the island between Kingston and Cape Vincent NY. I would like to do the Rideau or Erie Canal, whatever the group decides would be fine by me. Once the decision is made on where and the exact date, please post and I will schedule it if we are avialable. My September of this year is pretty open so I should be able to make it. If I had a preference I would probably choose the Erie Canal, but as I said earlier, I'll do whatever the group decides.

Hi All,
I’ll throw out some possible dates for our Fall 2006 Erie Canal gathering. I realized that I’ve never done the Eastern half of the canal, so I’d prefer to do the Eastern Erie this year, and Rideau next year. ( And, who can pass up such a bargain? Free Canal pass in 2006!)
So, why not do the same time frame as last year? That would mean start on 9/9 (or 9/10) and end on 9/16 ish. The advantage of this time frame is: 1. It’s after Labor Day ( so, fewer boats at facilities) and 2. It’s before 9/15 when Canal daily operating hours decrease.
We could launch at the Seneca Lake State Park ( again) and spend a night or two in Seneca Falls, and then head east. By Friday we could easily be in Troy while still maintaining a leisurely pace. On Saturday, we could do the Car shuffle. Or maybe we could get up the Champlain Canal to Whitehall or the Lake. Who cares? We’ll end where it feels good.
How’s this sound to all?
