If any of you here don't regularly check out the dialogue that goes on on the C-Dogs (C-Dory Owner's Group) web site, you might want to see what's happening over there, as Ken McCollough, their great mentor over the past several years, is stepping aside as site manager and seeking a replacement. This is an important development that will affect all of us in the greater C-Dory community.

Here's the discussion thus far:

Joe.

Joe, as you said, I've been monitoring the C-Dog site for the past year and have had the same thoughts as you:

but it well just be time to unify the C-Dory world again!

I'm sorry to see Ken go but I think it's time for a unified site. We're all C-Dory owners despite our geographical differences.

We've discussed this issue in the past, and I think Mike and I have made our thoughts and opinions pretty clear on this. I'm not speaking for Mike, or any other C-Brat for that matter, but I believe the decision to unify or keep the C-Dog site going lies solely with those who participate there.

We've made it pretty clear that we're a warm and welcoming group. Folks who participate exclusively at the C-Dogs should have zero concern about whether they would be welcome here - they would.

One of the items often mentioned is the "regional issue". From what I've seen, this is less of an issue than it used to be, at least here. We generate quite a bit of discussion for California and certain East Coast gatherings, which used to be handled primarily at the C-Dog site.

Regardless, the regional issue primarily applies to gatherings. Just about everything else we discuss is relevant to everyone. If there's an interest in having gathering discussions more geographically focused here, that could be easily done. One possibility would be to break up the C-Brat Cruises and Gatherings forum into 4-5 regional forums.

From a technical perspective, consolidating the site activities is simple. However, I think the whole C-Brat / C-Dog issue is really one of identity. There may be individuals who will never feel comfortable calling themselves "C-Brats", or attending a something dubbed a "C-Brat gathering". And while we'll welcome anyone regardless of what they wish to call themselves, there is a lot of pride in the C-Brat name and all we've accomplished as a group - the name is not going to change.

So again...it comes down to what the C-Dog members wish to do. Personally, I've always hoped for a single group, and hope they decide to join us...but it's not my choice to make.

Speaking as a newbie ,I enjoy both sites. I hope they can be combined AND the history threads, pics and documents can be preserved on the combined site

Sorry, but that ain't gonna happen.

Don't get me wrong - I'd look into it if it were technically possible and the C-Dogs wanted it, but it's way too much work, and the results are far from perfect.

When we migrated to this site from the old C-Brat MSN site, we attempted to copy data and pictures. It was an incredibly long, painful and manual task...and we had far less data and pictures to deal with than the current C-Dog site. Basically, Microsoft provides no tools to export an MSN site's contents - all you can do is manually cut/paste from every MSN post to the forums here, which we did for hundreds of documents and pictures.

And, once the documents were here, a lot of things were lost (links, in-line pictures, user attributions) due to the differences in how MSN and this site function.

I periodically looked at the C-DOG site, and never felt enough interest to post there. I'm with Peter, a unified site is better, unless there is really some compelling reason to have two, and I sure don't see that. The geographic focus is certainly not an issue, anybody can start a get-together in any place where two or more C-Dorys gather (it is kind of hard to call it a "get-together" with only one), but get-togethers are owner driven, not website driven, hence they can occur anywhere. And having gone to the Chesapeake, I can say they know how to do it on the Right Coast too! I can imagine some sadness for C-Dog long-timers like Bill and El, Seawolf Joe and Fishtales Roger, but we came on board just as the original C-Dog site disappeared, leaving us wondering what the heck had happened, found the Brats, and have never felt there was any reason go back...

We agree that one site would sure work for us. We originally started with the C-Dogs until we discovered the C-Brat site. For some reason the C-Dog site was not as "user friendly" to us non-techy types and it was just easier for us to navigate the C-B site. Both sites have been very helpful to us when we were "newbies" and we really appreciate everyone's helpful advice. Even with the dumbest questions I posted, like:
which direction are you supposed to sleep in the berth......duh" Laughing
Thanks you guys.

I hope Ken finds a new operator, I think two sites provides twice the fun. I've always felt that way even though I got banned from the Dog site years back just for joining the Brats. The other site offers a different flavor that appeals to some. I do understand that some folks feel that this site is to much of a "northwest, or, Puget Sound" driven thing but keep in mind, it is what we make. my $0.01

sleeping, try to figure out which way is uphill, sleep uphill and you'll sleep much better. Those little levels that they use in RV are a good thing. I sleep any which way depending on how the boat is loaded. another $ 0.01

I've never figure that one out either. I sleep with my head to the bow, but then bump it occasionally when I first wake up, but at least I can back out of the berth. If I sleep with my head toward the cabin area, when I get up I have a hard time crawling out. Survey Time. Ron

Just read through the discussion on the C-Dogs site. Kudos for Ken for running that site well. If someone takes over C-Dogs and keeps it going, great. If not, a warm welcome to all C-Dory owners, lookers, and lurkers here on C-Brats! As a Virginian far, far away from Puget Sound, I could not possibly feel more welcome here.

Best regards,

I hope someone on the Dog's site steps to the plate and carries on with it.
Too add to the discussion, I would like to see an East Coast site startup as well....if for no other reason then to suggest a name for it.

Let's see here ....we now have Dog's and Brats....it would seem only natural to name the East Coast site....C-Bun's.

I think that name is already taken: for the Naked Boating C-Dory Chapter. Moon

Sorry. Disgust

Joan wanted it clearly stated that she played no part in this post.

Best wishes,
Jim

As a boater, who lives in the East, and keeps his C Dory in the West, I would just as soon see one site--with local chapters, for West--north, Central and South, East, North Central and South---maybe a mid Americal site....
