No, you're not all imagining things...site performance and reliability has sucked for a couple weeks.
The short version - the hosting provider has oversold our semi-dedicated server.
They call it semi-dedicated, as we're supposed to share it with only a handful of folks. With most shared hosting plans, you could be sharing a server with 100+ other sites.
They are building a new server today, and will be moving accounts off of this server to reduce the load. Don't know if we'll be one of them or not, but it doesn't matter - once done, things should be back to normal, regardless of where we end up.
The work should be done later today, or tomorrow at the latest.

Yup, things are a bit slow around here, just like for this guy trying to pick up some one at the party:
Which reminds me, with all the fuss over the wrong SAT test items on last year's test, they've added this new one:
"Assuming a 7 and 1/2% per year degradation rate in the gene pool, how long after the Interstate bypasses a redneck town will it be before it produces a country and western singer?"
And as long as we're passing on funny stuff, here's another for the folks up in the PNW (also known as New Hong Kong):
A lady waiting in line at the bank overhears this conversation between the gentleman in front of her and the teller:
"Yesterday you give me $200 for 10,000 yen. Today you give me $180. Why the difference?"
"Flutuations!" was the answer.
"You fluct white guys too?" _________________ Sea Wolf, C-Brat #31

As long as we're completely off topic....
THE LONELY BRAIN CELL
Once upon a time there was a female brain cell which, by mistake, appened to end up in a man's head.
She looked around nervously because it was all empty and quiet.
"Hello?" she cried, but no answer.
"Is there anyone here?" she cried a little louder, but still no answer.
Now the female brain cell started to feel alone and scared and yelled at the top of her voice,
"HELLO, IS THERE ANYONE HERE?"
Then she heard a faint voice from far, far away..............
"We're way down here....."
Compliments of my bride and my daughter....
Don't complain about the site, use it to convince your better half that you need a new, faster computer. By the time you get it, the site will be back to normal, you'll have a new computer and she'll think you're a genius.... _________________ CHARLIE and PENNY CBRAT #100

We've just heard late breaking news that the Elvis Impersonator guy bought a lot overlooking Freshwater Bay between Jon and Cindy Lou's and Bill and Dana's.
Going to open up a trailer park for recovering Bayliner junkies.
There goes the neighborhood (AGAIN!) |

For what it's worth I've not noticed any degradation. I wonder if it has to do with the fact I'm on the east coast and may be accessing the server off peak versus more active members on the west coast? |

No, I've noticed it in Virginia but with broadband here, it's a lot better than my place on the river and in Maine with dialup. Then, I can go drink a beer or two while a page loads. Here in Northern VA, I hardly have time to take a sip.

Yep, it has been quite noticable here in SW Florida. Mostly during the mid day it seems, so maybe we are sharing the server with Ophra's gang. I did stop and run both a virus and antispyware utilities just to make sure I hadn't been zapped by the "slow down bug". Once I was given a clean bill of health I assumed it must be at the source. Thanks for the heads up Da Nag. _________________ Mike Taylor

OK, my guess is they have fixed the hosting problem - quite a bit more snappy this a.m.!
