My starboard window is catching a drip from the hard top and water is collecting and then leaking through the window. I stratigically placed a bucket to catch the drips for now and will empty it daily while it rains. I have to get a cover soon, but the windows shouldn't leak should they?
What do I need to do to replace or revitilize the seals so they won't leak.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks in advance, Drippy

You're right, Drippy, the windows should not leak around the seals. That was one of the things that impressed me with our 15 year old boat - the fit and construction of the windows. Is your leak coming around or past the pop-in rubber strip, or is it coming through the gap between the slider and the fixed window? There should be drain openings in the lower channel of the frame. Are they clean and open?

If you're talking about the extruded rubber seals that pop in on the outside of the frames, I am glad you asked. The rubber in mine is discolored and looks ugly. I have tried all manner of cleaning solutions, including bleach, and cannot get the stains to lighten. You would think that we could buy that rubber strip as a replacement part. Anybody have any idea where? You might be able to help out two of us at once.

That's IT! UREAKA! Mike is a GENIOUS!
The drains were plugged with moss/mold something icky.
I'll clean the rest of the window seal later as I have to go to bed and rest up for my shift tonight. I cleaned all of the window drains on both sides.
Thanks Mike, you're the greatest.

I'd also like to know the answer to that. Has anyone asked Les? Or Scot? Or Dusty?

From: Mike Sent: 12/29/2002 12:51 AM
It looks like Scott has left us, so we won't be finding out from him.

Larry (Nancy H) said those windows should have a manufacturer's sticker on the latch handle or somewhere. Mine are gone, but maybe someone with a newer boat can get some info off theirs. Or, maybe someone who likes emailing can send the question to the factory. That extruded rubber can't be all that expensive. It probably comes in a roll, and the corners take a set after being stuck in the frames for a while. Anyhow, if I can find the right stuff for the right price, I would like to replace all mine.

Mike, My handles are like new. In the morning I'll take a look and post the name here.

Hey, alright! I finally stumbled on an answer for something! That crud grows in the slider tracks, too. It has something to do with the NW weather.

Mike, they just have big blue letters, S/G just like that. I think in my case it stands for Stuck Good .

I looked my windows over real good, and can't find any ID. I figure if I run into Ryan from Sportcraft Marina at the PDX BS CD booth, I'll ask him. He will for sure find out and email me the info. In the mean time, I'm OK with the ugly seal strips.

Oh yeah, thank you for checking, Ray.

Those window drains lend a whole new meaning to the term sicence project. I throw down towels on the inside and use a hose with a nozzle to blast out the drains and channel every once in a while, some water will leak through to the interior but it works.
To keep the windows from sticking spray the channels with lots of silicone spray a few time a year it does wonders and helps keep the algae growth down.

Thanks Steve, I have gobs of green goo that needs to be removed. I can't get my windows to budge yet. I'm focusing on just getting it going first then I'll do boat maintenance while I'm fishing. It's an old trick I use to make the fish think it's o.k. to make off with my bait while my back is turned. I can't wait to try it on the Sea Lion.
Stay tuned...

Thanks Mike, next to my 8 HP Honda your my hero! The window is nice and dry inside despite the rain and even the cabin is dry since I stole a drain plug off my old boat . I knew I caried three of those for some reason..... Tomorrow I'll get to talk to the Suzuki experts and put these gremlins to bed just in time to go fishing and boat camping. I can hardly wait!

Thanks, Steve -

That's good to know that silicone keeps the growth down. We can grow moss in a week down at the coast.

Pulled this off a CD window at the boat show thought I would post it.

The sliding windows are made by Diamond/Sea Glaze Langly BC 800-770-0455 don't need any parts yet but you never know.

Leaky windows again, found out on the halibut trip that both my side windows leak like a sieve.
What is happening is that a large amount of spray gets kicked up while under way hits the side window then rolls back into the bottom rear corner of the window. This will accumulate in the corner and actually rise 3/4 to 1 inch above the window channel (should have taken a pic of it) the pool will now drain into the interior (3 hours of very heavy spray netted almost 5 gal of water leaking inside from the port window). There is not a drain within 3 inches of the rear corner on my windows and I doubt that it would make much difference due to the volume of water needing to be drained off.
So I emailed S/G asking if there was a way to ID the model numer of the windows, if a refurb kit is available and if this is abnormal. That was two weeks ago have not received anything back I'll start the phone harassment next week to see if I can get an answer.
I have a feeling that the issue maybe a maintenance thing, I can see a lot of caked up algee in that back area. May try to take the things apart and clean but hate to go through all the work only find I need seals and not have the parts on hand....
I'll update on my progress with S/G and if they have parts available as soon as I get some info.

I'd like to know if folks have added rain deflectors or other devices to keep the rain out when the windows are open. This might help a bit. A co-worker with a CD has installed some sort of gutter to the cap, but didn't have the specifics. Anybody out there with ideas or experience doing this to their boat?

Much obliged,

Thought about it many times just a cut in half PVC pipe attached to the roof down edge would work.
Never did hear from the SG folks on my email, nothing like customer service. Actually Im playing with the idea of a gutter like above and removing the little plastic covers over the drains.
Did find that being moored on the coast I need to clean the drains everytime I wash the boat to keep things alge free, silicone does not slow growth down enough under those conditions.

Hi Blain,

Glad to see you ar enjoying your C-Dory. Regarding gutters, ie/ rain deflectors, etc. Camping World and probably every other RV place on the planet offer a EZE-RV Gutter System. I picked one up and put it on the motorhome about 4 or 5 years ago. It's still there and appears to be absolutely soldi still.

The nature of the beast in approx measurements is: height 7/8", O/A width 1/2", gutter depth approx. 1/4". Vertical bonding surface of the adhesive is 5/8". The stuff is white and small enough that it will go on the top including the eye brow and should look good. I have a couple of pieces left from my motorhome job and I think I'll consider using it , if I have enough left.. Whether it will to the job satisfactorily or not, hmmm, guess it depends how hard it's raining! Might be something to check out?

Enjoy!

Good question Blain! I have been so busy with upgrades costing in the thousands... Razz that I forget to get to that little irritatin' feature for years now! I have a different idea than everyone else going through my noggin, I think I will actually do this week:D I'll photo and post it here then.

Hey all, I can't touch that nasty porn message here, I'm only a member on this one. I forgot about that.
