|

My BF-200 was cutting out and coming to a stall whenever I exceeded 4000 rpm. Turns out the problem was that the corrosion was so bad where the cables and fuel line entered the motor, the fuel supply was getting choked off by the corrosion buildup. If I stayed below 4000 rpm the motor ran fine. Above 4000 rpm there was not enough fuel getting to the engine. This is the motor’s 19 season so it hasn’t been a terrible run but I sure wish Honda used better metal in their castings and put neverseize on the bolts in their outboards. I’m now wishing I would have went with the Yamaha. |

Years ago I had a brake sticking on my car. Assumed it was the caliper seizing so replaced it. Problem did not go away.Turned out that a metal clamp holding the flex line was corroded and choking it. Master cyl, had enough psi to push brake fluid out to the caliper but the restriction slowed the flow of fluid back to the master cyl.
Simple fix once I found the problem.

I had corrosion problems in my Honda 90 that caused me to repower. Mechanic looked at it and said "typical." I've now got a Mercury. _________________ Gerhard |

Forrest,
I had internal corrosion issues with the same engine and year as yours. In my case, I could have replaced the heads and gotten a few hundred more hours, but the corrosion had also eaten away a good portion of the cooling passage around the cylinder walls. I scrapped the outboard.
There were two owners before me and the second owner was not a boat guy… clearly never flushed the outboard after use. I did know what I was buying and I was able to get 1500 hours before replacing the outboard.
