Who do you belong to?

Hopefully we will head off on some shakedown cruises this year. We will want to have current information and a base of folks we can depend on. I find it very easy to sign up for forums but a bit harder to keep up on them all. So now I'm going back and canceling any forms that I simply won't need anymore. I'm hoping you all share with me what you consider to be your core informational and social forums that are important to you.

The process of looking for a boat has been very circular in my mind but the circle has always come back to C-Dory as this brand and its followers most accurately align with my goals. Below are the forums I visit most.

-The C-Brats is right now my favorite, of course, as it addresses both the loop and the systems of these boats. It has also provided a lot of great and patient people that I can ask embarrassing questions of.

-My first used to be the AGLCA and I will probably circle back to that as my first once looping.

-I spend some time on The Hull Truth and I see many of you there

-I like the Trawler Forum

-There are a couple Facebook groups dedicated to C-Dory's

-There is an AGLCA Facebook site that I sometimes visit

- Wooden Boat is one of my much older but enjoyable sites but alas I have detoured away from wooden boats.

These are the sites, and in that order, I really have learned from with regards to cruising and learning boat precepts and systems.

What is missing for strictly boating forums?

I could see someone posting a list of sites recommended by members. Maybe there is one already.

The Rosborough(RF246) is a 25' pilothouse similar in some respects to the Cdory. A lot of them can be seen doing the loop. They have an owners FB site you might find interesting. - https://www.facebook.com/groups/188857591155989

One of them just embarked on the loop couple of days ago. She started a separate FB page to document her trip. Many of our Cdory's have done the loop as well and some are documented on this site.

C-Brats is by far the best. I tried the hull truth but honestly I am just inundated by ads there and can’t stand to visit it. This site is the best for c-dorys but also a lot of members came from sailing background and are knowledgeable about many other nautical topics as well.

Only the search feature here is lacking. I never use it. Instead, I use google to search for topics within the c-brats site. It returns way better results. On googles main page, if I wanted to search ‘great loop’ I would type:

site:c-brats.com great loop

It works great and some of you I’m sure so the same but for those that have a hard time finding info that is the best way I’ve found.

I am also a frequent poster on The Hull Truth. I read and occasionally comment on The Trawler Form, and the Cruising Form. For certain stories I go to "Sailing Anarchy" (there are other types of boats in the "Anarchy Constellation".

On T H T, there are a few posters who are almost always spot on: Tom Clark, Ned Loyd, and Ken, from Prop Gods. There is another spinoff from THT, which is invitation only I believe. I have not put the time there I should. I occasionally am on the Pensacola Fishing Forum, and Gulf Coast Fishing Forum.

I agree the Rosborough 246 and 22 are both good boats, a bit different than the C Dory, but we did consider a 246, but for what might seem like minor issues decide against one. The Rosie is good going into chop, but not as good (Compared to C Dory or Venture) down wind or waves. Our dislike had to do with layout more than anything else. I would not turn one down. I had looked very seriously at their wooden sailboats over 60 years ago.

When you use the Enhanced Search tool up above do you page to the bottom of their returns? I used to try it and got a page of two of Google returns and another member challenged me to page down further and "bingo" there were the C-Brat site returns. It was great to see.

Are C-Dory's, Rossi's and Rangers Tugs self righting from a roll-over event?

No. The only boats I know that can roll back over are some USCG surf boats. I'm sure there are others, but probably not in the trawler or class of boats you mentioned above.
