Hi All,
I have several of the 4" and 6" EZ-Loader Composite Bunk Covers (https://store.ezloader.com/bunk-channel-glide-covers-4-x-18, https://store.ezloader.com/bunk-channel-glide-covers-6-x-18) that came off a Tomcat trailer I recently scrapped. They are of varying condition, but I think all are usable. The picture below shows what I have. Actual lengths are 10 1/2" for the short and 17 1/2" for the long. The one on the far left is ~half of a 6" cover.
Make me an offer for any of them and you pay the shipping.
Thanks!
Pat

I still have the bunk covers and would be happy for them to be used for their intended purpose instead of going to the land fill. I'll continue to hang on to them for a while but don't hesitate if you think you might need some!

I don't know how I missed this but I could use a few more. I felt sorry for the guy who lost his bunk when I saw one floating in the marina only to discover later it was mine! _________________ Current boats

Hi,
I could use your 6 inch wide bunk covers, and I will pay for shipping. I sent you a PM.

Why does the EZ Loader trailer web site say that these glides are only recommended for aluminum hulls? |

Mai Pen Rae I can't specifically answer why they only recommend these for aluminum boats but could take a guess that if shells or stones get between the slides and the fiberglass hull it could cause it to scratch the fiberglass. Another reason is that these slides are slippery when you have the boat on them and the boat will slide off easily which is a good thing, but unlike a roller trailer the end of the slide is not a roller and is a relatively sharp edge. If you launch and are not deep enough that edge will be the pivot point of the boat going off the trailer which has the potential to cause issues.
All that having been said, I have them on my trailer and love them. You need to get the boat trailer in the water before disconnecting the boat from the trailer. You might be able to get away with unhooking early with carpeted bunks but not with these slides. They make retrieving the boat a breeze. I have the ablative bottom paint on my boat and it doesn't hurt it where as the carpeted bunk will wipe the bottom paint off. _________________ Dave

Schuster, you slide off your trailer with these glides and it doesn't hurt your bottom paint? I too have ablative bottom paint on my c-dory and i have noticed a little paint coming off when retrieving on the carpet bunks (I always float off the bunks) and was wondering just how these would work.
It's retrieving the c-dory that can be tricky. My carpeted side bunk guides will slow down and center the c-dory when floating onto the trailer. With all carpet bunks on the bottom, it sticks pretty good yet loses a little paint. However, I want to change the long bottom bunks with two rows of four glides along the side chines and four glides in the front center with each glide having its own 2x2 inch aluminum support post. This would be so I can clean the underside of the boat by letting it slide backwards on a hill with the wench in addition to allowing a strap to go underneath forward and aft for the rare sling launch from some marinas.
Regards,
Brian |

"Liquid Rollers", or any dry silicon spray makes carpeted bunks far slipperier. Liquid rollers on the "Slicks"==easy to pull on and push off--many times too easy. _________________ Bob Austin

Mai Pen Rai, I should clarify that my trailer is actually a combination of both carpet and plastic skids. I have found that most of the time when coming back in to trailer the boat that it will float most of the way on and I have to crank it in a couple of feet to finish the load. This works out for me so I don't get the truck wheels wet. So I'm set up that I have the skids all forward and the back 6' is carpeted. when cranking in the back part of the boat is still floating. When I launch I take the boat down over the water then unhook safety chain and strap while my wife tends the bow line. Then back sown till the boat begins to float and hit the brakes and she slides right off. No where near as much wear on the ablative bottom paint.
One area of caution is that you need to make sure that your tiedown straps are of sufficient quality to hold the boat from moving forward in case of panic stop or collision.
Dr Bob, I've used the liquid rollers and found that there is still enough friction that the bottom paint still wears off of the bottom and ends up on the carpet. I'll admit it is of some help sliding but imo no where near as well as the plastic skids. |

Yes, I agree--I have used slicks on most of my trailers--as you have. You must have an ideal ramp also. There are some very shallow ramps, (Like Lake Powell State Line) where you have to get both rear and front wheels in the water.
I always put a strap across the cockpit, in front of the cleats. Also the chain from the bow eye to the eye on the tongue of the trailer helps to keep the trailer from riding up forward in a panic stop. |
