I’m about to cut a 3” hole in the deck of my 22” Cruiser for my new Lewmar Pro 700H windlass. It seems logical that this hole would be centered over the middle of the anchor locker, but the Lewmar installation instructions, which don’t explicitly call out a location, show an illustration (see below) with the windlass offset from the center of the anchor locker. I’m a bit confused by this and want to make sure I put the hole in the proper place. Shouldn’t it be centered over the middle of the anchor locker? Thanks

The aft end of the anchor locker is deeper than the forward end. Most of us have the same windlass (or similar without the free fall feature.). I put 4 on the C Dorys I have owned. Usually just in front of the main bow cleat--enough room to pass a line over the cleat--about an inch ahead of the cleat. You probably already have a deck pipe. I used that for a second rode. Used netting to separate the two rodes.

Edit:

You have exactly the setup that one of my 22's had: However the chain preventer looks to have been installed backward, unless the mechanism is just flipped back.

Here is a photo of my 22 with the windlass. Worked very well. Maybe a little more than an inch. Got ride of the chain stopper. I use a short piece of line from an eye splice over the bow cleat and a D shackle or Pelican hook spliced on the other end, to go into the chain. As you can see I used 8 plait line. I also added the smaller cleats on each side--work far better than the central cleat. I did put a back up plate under the original bow cleat.

Of course that makes sense. Thank you.
