Hello,
Looking for some suggestions. My carbon monoxide detectors have been going off. But I'm not sure why. After a short day trip I would get back to the marina and turn off the engine. But the windows and doors would be open for quite some time as I'm packing up. The next day I arrive and my carbon monoxide detector is going off. Could it be my battery off gassing? Could it be my Wallace diesel heater? Everything is off. Any ideas?
Thanks. _________________ Thanks |

My CO detector will go off if the supply voltage gets too low. Is there another boat running its engines or generator next to your boat?
There is also the end of life alarm.
Is your CO detector powered when "Everything is off."?
If you think that battery off gassing is the problem, then maybe your battery placement should be reviewed. Batteries should not be in a location where off gassing gases can collect. The CO detected should not detect H2 gas from the batteries. |

I have had other gasses make my CO2 detector sound the alarm bells. I know it technically should not do that, but it has. It seems simple enough and certainly cheap/free to just pull the battery to see if the condition stops...if possible. I wouldn't be surprised it's just time for a new CO2 detector. |

For the most part the detector circuit and materials are good for about 5 years. My guess is that is the end of life as noted above. Kiddie claims 7 to 10 years, with some exceptions. I change at 5 years to be safe. _________________ Bob Austin
