Hi all!
So does anyone have any experience putting starlink on their vessels'? I'm debating getting a starlink roam to share between the RV and the tomcat.

I follow a number of Youtube channels of sailboat cruisers who go all over the world including ocean crossings. Some of them have installed Starlink. I just watched one as they crossed the Atlantic in 18 days. They were able to upload their daily episode every day (much less getting email and Windy data etc). They loved it. Seems to be the coming thing.

I have been following Starlink on RV's, and ocean cruising Forums. Also Panbo had several discussions. It used to be cheap both for equipment and monthly. The RV still is fairly cheap--also could be on a boat in harbors and inland rivers.

The marine has gone up, and at one point no distinguishing between recreational and commercial vessels.

Many who were using the RV were cut off once they were a certain distance from shore. Also the mobile form has the last priority, vs stationary in any one place.

Currently the RV is $600 for equipment and $150 a month for the NA continent. You can get Worldwide for $200 a month (but not offshore) The Mobile priority (which would include recreational boats) is $2500 for equipment, and $250 a month for 50 GB, for 1TB it is $1000 for initial and each TB. 5TB is $5000.

Here is a lengthy link to trawler forum. This covers the Inland Passage to AK. as well as some other areas world wide.

Bob's post is by far the most accurate and succinct that I have read on this subject.

Kudos Bob!

We have Starlink on our Sprinter (live 4 months van 8 months international). We have the RV plan that you can suspend and restart. Starlink terms of service were just updated to allow 10mph usage. We’ll take it in our CD22 when we start the loop.

We just modified the dish to lay flat (just an inch thick) - works great and mounted to the Sprinter roof and the same on the CD22.

We love it!

Just a few days ago I was talking to C-Brats Jeff & Dianne (formerly Ripple) via a wifi call through their Starlink while they were cruising up in the Broughtons. We talked for over an hour, and a lot about how well the system worked for them while cruising in such a remote place with virtually no cell reception and limited wifi at the few marinas in the area. They enjoy streaming some movies and getting up to day on the news, surf the internet, as well as exchange emails and wifi calls with friends and relatives. Seems like it is really working well for them.

UPDATE
I bought a starlink Roam a few months ago. It works at speed underway. No complaints.

We had a couple who are working from their boat on the internet business, using StarLink, stay at "Camp Thataway" recently. They have the $250 a month plan, and have "turned it off" for a month or more at a time when they are not cruising in C Dory boat, or RV. They have been very pleased with the service and ability to us from many different places.

Big fan of Starlink! It has made my life so nice on the ship I work on. We have the commercial version. Super fast, the system keeps working even with winds 65 kts., seas 24 ft., and rain that flood the decks 6 inchs deep. Never looses a connection! The system worth every penny.

850ft Drillship working everywhere in the Gulf of Mexico. Up to 200 users of the Starlink internet at a time onboard. Never slows down. It smokes the rig net satellite system that we use as backup. That service is $15,000 per month for internet. Starlink is way cheaper per month.
