... Also, does this thruster have time or temperature cut out on the pump to limit the time it runs? Many of the tunnel type have these "safety" features. Not so safe it the skipper urgently needs the thruster to get his boat into a close dock and the thruster times out or temperature's out. ...!

The manual does say that there is a thermal cutout feature and not to run the thrusters more than 10 seconds at a time. The system also needs its own battery.

Since the power unit is a pump and not just a motor, you'd think that they'd be able to tap some water off as a cooling loop for whatever part gets hot and trips the thermal cutoff.

Yes, you should be able to manage your boat without thrusters and be ready in case there is a failure. But if there is something that makes your life a bit easier, why not get one? Might lead to a little less yelling at the crew when docking.

My boat also carries evidence of its experience.

Eartec: solves these problems for $385 for a set.

I"ve had them, bow and stern on a 30ft. Really nice and handy. I've also had them leak and suck in hidden lines. Gear lube leaks as well as water.
I like the the simplicity of a C-dory. Even if I had the money, likely would not add one. Just more to go wrong.
Small ones may not be as effective as imagined though. In a stiff wind or current, it may not hold or be strong enough to work; but would still help.
I get it, would make boating easier on a lot of situations, but is it worth it?
1) Practice
2) Lots of large fenders
3) spring like is great for thrusting the boat forward and thus into the dock.
4) then if all else fails, and you have funds, put some type of thruster on. I get it, they are great and do help reduce docking and trailering stress.

I called the distributor yesterday and they sent me photos of the installation of the mini. Very clean and compact. It will be interesting to see how well it works in high winds. This could make a great option for the factory. Some boaters purchase a Ranger Tug just because they have a thruster.

When I’m stuck somewhere, I’ll try to work out how to post Micro Thruster photos. All good so far on the Clockwise Great Loop. About to go up some of the Mississippi over the next three days.

Need to get the admins to set up a gallery for your account so you can post photos.
