Why, custom or some good reason to not keep the engine hours close to one another?

We have our crab puller on the starboard side, so use the port side engine when approaching the crab pot buoy... just to keep the moving propeller away from the pot and the lines.
Trolling would likely result in a bigger discrepancy, though.
