Hello All,
We are planning on joining the Friday Harbor Gathering and will be leaving from Anacortes. We have had our boat for 3 years and have traveled many lakes and rivers, but this will be our time in salt water. Would be awesome if there was someone we could meet in Anacortes and maybe follow over to Friday Harbor? We have both GPS and Radar, and think we are ready to make the trip, would just love some experience nearby.
Thank you in advance, please PM Howtam on the Rising Sun.

I'm planning to leave Cap Sante for Eagle Harbor sometime Wednesday morning, and then Eagle Harbor for Friday Harbor sometime Thursday morning. Anyone that would like is welcome to follow me over. I just don't have exact times yet. Anyone that hasn't heard about Nebo yet, it's a nice little app you can download to your smart phone, and locate others. I'm registered as C-Traveler. I'll also be transmitting AIS when I'm moving. (I turn it off while anchored or docked.)

Colby, that would work well for us.
We can meet you at Cap Sante Marina at any time you decide on.
I will download the app and contact you there.
Thanks for the invite.

Thanks Howard and Tami for posting. Hope it works out for you to travel with Colby. You will be safe with him. He is a very accomplished Captain and a nice guy.

Colby, I have many PMs with interest in an Anacortes crossing. Thanks for talking the lead. You may end up with quite a following. Thumbs Up Very Happy Gary

I think I better get there early on Tuesday to have room to park my rig after I launch. lol And we may have to raft on the mooring balls. Is that allowed? (How many accomplished captains ask that? Mr. Green )

Oh, I know the answer on these particular mooring balls. Let’s hope we have enough balls for everybody! Colby

Good, you know the answer. No rafting on the mooring balls. It I OK to anchor but it is discouraged to protect the eel grass. That is why the mooring is free. If you arrive by 2 pm, you should be fine. The Island has so many places to hike. Enjoy.

Colby, thanks for the tip on Nebo. I downloaded it, seems to be a good app for finding those in your group (as long as we have cell coverage that is). I see that I'm at "anchor" in my side yard. Hint, you have to start & stop a voyage (only once) to get your boat to appear.

And Martin, thanks for your local knowledge on the Strait Of Georgia. That sounds much more reasonable on the regular sea state. Much like our Catalina crossing down here. There are nasty days, but that isn't the norm.

Ran into Patrick and Kim this afternoon and was reminded about the gathering. Any chance there is still room for Launa and I on the dock?

Cya there!

Hi Steve and Launa. Yes there is room. Send PM with requested information from page 1 to DayBreak and we will get you on the spreadsheet.

Glad you can make it. Gary and Colleen

For any that wanted to follow from Cap Sante marina, my plans are to arrive and launch at Cap Sante sometime Tuesday afternoon. I’ll stay at the marina that night and then leave the slip at 10am, heading over to Eagle Harbor at Cypress Island. If there are no mooring balls available then go to plan B. (TBD at that time. Cool Mr. Green . Leave the next morning then about 9:30a to head over to Friday Harbor. I’ll be at slow cruise the entire time of around 5-6 kts unless weather and seas dictate otherwise. Of course this is all assuming my uneventful cruise up to Rio Vista from San Francisco and then the drive up to Anacortes. Colby

We are very sorry to say we will not be able to attend this year. This will be the first FH gathering we have missed since we became C-Brats #62. Due to my slow recovery from the broken femur, we cannot come on the boat and if we stayed in a hotel, I would not be able to walk down to H Dock. Please raise a glass on Saturday evening for my full recovery!

I was hoping to come, but my boat is still in the shop getting some maintenance. Doesn't look like I will get it back in time.

You'all are going to get some magnificent weather....including those going to Princess Louisa.

Sorry to hear your recovery needs more time, Pat. You two will be missed. We are wishing you a full recovery soon.

Sandy, we were hoping to hear more details about your trip around Vancouver Island.

We left Wyoming on May 2nd & launched at Fort Townsend on the 3rd. Spent the night across the channel from Port Townsend at the small Fort Flagler State Marine Park dock. With us the only ones there it was a quiet beautiful evening with an almost full moon & lighting flashing on the horizon. We should have taken the lighting part as a warning with our plans of crossing the Strait of Juan De Fuca the next morning. Forecast conditions there was seas of only a foot, but we, as can often happens, found conditions quite different on the next day crossing. We were looking to avoid getting Jolee overly bounced about with this being her first trip since our 2018 SE Alaska cruise. As it turned out, we needed the next few days at Jones Island for a full recovery from the crossing. It rained most of our time at Jones Island, but still were able to get in some good walks & relaxing on the boat at the dock. No problems getting a spot with at times us the only boat at the dock. We are now enjoying a light breeze, mostly sunny day at Sucia Island at the dock close to Fox Cove in Fossil Bay. There is only one other boat here & it a small one.

See you all soon,

Jay

Judy and I are back in Bedwell Harbour. We left for early this morning to check in at Roche Harbour customs, but after 2 hours of going through a rigamarole in the unmanned customs station without a working telephone and then going through the tablet based system, we were denied entry into the US because as we did not have a Crusing Permit and our Canadian cell phone did not connect in the US. So we went north again to try to sort things out. We did talk to a customs agent at Friday Harbour with the Harbour masters phone, which worked. So we came back to Canada and checked back in at customs here, a friendly 5 minute phone call and we were back home. We got advise that we should go directly to Friday Harbour customs and try there, which we will do tomorrow. Hopefully they will let us stay in the country tomorrow. We are looking forward to the gathering if we can get into your country. If we are not there, you will know why.
