Nope. Emailed someone on YouTube about their boat. That ended up lediing to me purchasing their boat from them. One of their videos mentioned going bigger in the future and I asked if they would sell it when they found a new boat. They decided to sell their boat so when they found the bigger one they would already have some money and the old boat gone. It worked for me it worked for them and I consider myself lucky.
It has everything I wanted, EVERYTHING, except radar.
26, venture, autopilot, 200hp Suzuki, low hours, cabinet upgrades, 4 blade prop, solar, lithium, 9" chartplotter, trim tabs, stove heater, hot water, AIS, Bimini, stored indoors, and lots more.

Great find and good job again on being persistent and aggressive in your search. Glad it worked out for you and the seller for their quest to find a larger boat and to have ready cash for a deposit. On your list, the autopilot, AIS (transponder i'm sure) and stored indoors catch my eye in buying used. For our use we have found Radar to be very helpful and for you, it can always be added later. I've said it before and I'll say it again. There is no perfect boat.

There are good ones, to be sure, but none perfect. Why? A perfect boat does not
exist because 1) it is man made, 2) it is not designed for all sea states, 3) it will
not last indefinitely, 4) maintenance will not be perfect, 5) the perception of being
perfect exists only temporarily in the mind of the beholder and anything that is
perfect can only do one thing: fail.

I bought a new C-Dory 26 Venture w/twin Honda 90s (about my 11th boat).
Thought I was in Heaven. Told myself "This has got to be as close to perfect as
possible". It wasn't. Sold it a few years later. Bought an older larger boat. It had
beverage holders at the helm and around the cockpit. Loved it for a while, then
sold it. You can do that with a boat and that may be the best part of having a
boat: you can have it, love it for a while, sell it and then go on if you want. That
doesn't work with a wife. I've tried that and it's a big mistake, costly too. More
costly that changing boats.

So, stick with the boat you're happy with, add radar if that helps for a while, then
sell it when you tire of repairing and improving things you once never expected
to do. Many on this website have done so. Look at their log of previous boats.
That tells you something: maybe it's not any boat's fault. Maybe it's us....

Now I'm boatless in boating paradise and feel just fine.

Aye.

Oh yeh. Variety is the spice of life.

(No comment on personal relationships.
The wife analogy may disturb some but
it seems appropriate albeit curt/terse.)

Aye.

My fourth boat's name: "My Last Boat IV".

OMG, Steve,

I would not thought this possible. Is it really true that you have owned 72 boats for private use (not connected to business at all)! I would not have believed it.

Sandy,
Been boating since born and have enjoyed every boat that I have owned and always have been fortunate and never lost a dime, after enjoying them, then selling them, to enjoy another boat.
I have always had a home with a dock, or a ramp at the end of the street. I have mostly lived where boating has been possible year round (Governors Island was the exception) and get to go boating almost every day of the year.
At 69, I've got to ensure that I go out as often as I can, as I know that one day, that will no longer be possible...

I have had the perfect boat for over 10 years,

And the perfect wife for 40 years (after 12 other trailer boats together, but no other wives).

Yes, I am a very lucky guy.

John

I loved my C30 cutwater, but love my house without mortgage more. It was sad to sell it, but debt free house was a milestone in my life.

John, you have every right to claim this as I have the right to not believe it. And,
I don't.

Yes, 10/40 years is quite a long time, but not long enough. Your experience with
both is yet incomplete as well as other undisclosed factors being relevant for your
statement.

Aye.

Foggy, try seeing the joy in life, instead of misery. I feel as John does. Perfect may not last forever. But enjoy what you have! Maybe perfection is a state of mind. And who are you to deny others that perfection? Quite frankly, most probably don't care if you believe folks or not. Aye...Grandpa said, ignore the naysayers! Colby

I don't think you'll get Foggy to see the joy in life. From his posts here, he only seems to take joy in crapping on someone's parade and dispensing his opinion (that no one asked for) and confirming (in his head) the opinion is correct by crediting his long gone grandparents. My tough ol' Irish grandmother used to say, "Some people are just assholes."

When we were cruising in our C-Dory in the Pacific Northwest, enjoying a sunset while having a nice meal at the dinette, in a gorgeous anchorage - yeah, it was the perfect boat. When we hauled it from the PNW to south Florida to enjoy a winter aboard, it was the perfect boat. But your lifestyle and desires change over time, so it is great that you can make a change of conveyance. On the Corsair sailing trimaran we had before the C-Dory, the most perfect evening on the boat found us laying out on the nets, watching a meteor shower, with dolphins swimming around the boat. That boat was perfect for our needs... until we decided we wanted a boat that would be easier to move around the country and would give us the protected helm and 360º views in the cabin.

Perfection can be a moment in time. Also, you can make your own perfection. But, when you get a new boat and someone feels the need to tell you it isn't perfect... well, see what my dear ol' Irish grandmother said above.

My wife and I celebrated our 50th anniversary last month. We have always had each other's backs. Pretty sure her parents didn't think I was the "perfect" guy, but they learned I would do anything for that woman. She has been the perfect woman for me; I can't speak for her, but she's still here.

I've frequently thought the C-Brats is a fine forum. Close to perfect with that one rule: Just be nice. And for the most part, that rule works. Until... well, you know. Some people find their joy in being a perfect ass.

Enjoy the boat, enjoy the way you use it. Ignore the assho... um, naysayers.

Jim, this is one time that I will disagree with you. Foggy sold his Venture, but apparently loved this forum enough that he elected to stay and become a contributing member with some good comments. There were some roughness around the edges, and I certainly know since I was the butt of the early comments.
At that time I did a little internet investigation about Foggy, his profession, church activities etc...it is all out there. He certainly was a contributing member of his community.

Foggy wrote and shared with us, his tome on cold water/hypothermia, which is excellent.

As to the "Perfect boat". We had one "perfect boat". That was the Cal 46, motor sailor. If our health had allowed, we would still own her. We done extensive modifications to bring the range under power to 3000 miles, We could launch and retrieve a RIB when underway at up to 7 knots. The freezer contained entrees for a 6 months, etc... It was a rare breed which would run at 8 knots under power and under sail. We had several days over 200 miles on passage. We averaged over 180 miles a day. The couple who bought the boat from us continued to use and live aboard for over 22 years. They thought it was the perfect boat also--and only gave it up when they, as we, could not use it in the fashion for which it was intended.

So lets move on with our lives, and appreciate each member of this community for their positive contributions.
