with a window of nice weather, I thought we had better get to checking out some of the numerous lakes in central Oregon so we loaded up the crew and headed to Cultus lake. The lake is a bit small but has some nice boat in campgrounds and a nice ramp. From what I hear the place is a zoo with a swarm of splash and giggle boats in the warmer months. but we had the place to ourselves today.
we caught an awesome quick limit-

Nice catch. Nothing wrong with those two. They are definitely keepers and good sized, something to be proud of! _________________ Gary F

Cultus lake story. About 30 years ago we had an old 16 foot Skagit with a 50 hp Johnson on it. We were on Cultus Lake when a storm came up and all of a sudden big waves appeared out of nowhere. Headed for shore we slammed a monster wave and the outboard, which was fastened to the transom with clamps, came flying off. It was subsequently held on by the steering cables and we were spinning in a circle until I managed to reach the controls and shut it down. The motor then sank beneath the surface. I used a little kicker to get us to shore where I tied up at a dock, got in the water and somehow managed to get the outboard back on the transom. I pulled the plugs and crank the motor with the starter for about 30 seconds until no more water came out the exhaust, then put the plugs back in and started it up, and it was fine for many years thereafter.
My apologies for the thread heist. _________________ Paul |

LOL Ken,
on the catch!
Glad you got out for a little adventure. In the beginning of my power boating, we used to go to Crane Praire Reservoir in a 19' Grummen Square stern with a 2 horse suzuki. It was perfect for the flooded timber. Packed the Wall tent and two boys. Being toddlers, they learned to stagger around on uneven ground, stimulating the development of the nervous system for what we would need at times for the 22' that would be in our future . Good times. I have thought of going back in the C-Dory. Good reminder to do it at non peak time. _________________ (Primative) |
