Another silly question from a newbie.
Where does the water that gets into the anchor locker area drain? Wet anchor ropes and possible windlass leak would seem to me to keep that area moist much of the time. The rug in the cabin was a little damp from this. Does anyone put a door in that forward bulkhead to help the area dry better? I see that it is not sealed to the hull but I figure better air flow might help. Once I get to use the boat more I can try to trace if water is getting in through the windlass. 34 degrees here last night so I might have to learn about my boat more next season.

Well, I didn't anchor much, but you are right about the wet rode. As to the windless, mine was seldom used so I had a sunbrella cover made for it. Lastly, I see no need for a rug in the cabin. It's bound to get moldy on a 16. Just my thoughts. _________________ MartyP

In the larger boats, the anchor locker has the lower bulkhead tabbed to the hull (should be on both sides). There is a hole in the bottom of the anchor locker of the water to drain thru. There is a small clamshell vent cover to avoid water coming back up. I have put a piece of Sunbrella to enclose the upper part of the anchor locker in a 22. _________________ Bob Austin

Hello all,
Thanks for the suggestions.
Now that I know how to properly search the site I see quite a few options for the forward bulk head ( moving it forward, putting it on a hinge, making a drained anchor locker).
Will think about it all winter while we wait to go boating again in April or May in New England.
